answer text <p>Clean sport is a shared responsibility and one in which UK Anti-Doping (UKAD), sport and government work together. UKAD is the UK’s national anti-doping organisation and an arm’s length body of the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS). DCMS and UKAD share the common objective of promoting and protecting clean sport through education, testing and enforcement. UKAD works with athletes and national sports bodies to ensure compliance with the World Anti-Doping Code, primarily through implementing the government’s National Anti-Doping Policy.</p> more like this

answer text <p>The UK is committed to protecting endangered animals and plants from poaching and illegal trade to benefit wildlife, local communities and the economy, and protect global security. We are investing over £46 million globally between 2014 and 2022 to counter illegal trade by reducing demand, strengthening enforcement, ensuring effective legal frameworks and developing sustainable livelihoods. Through the Illegal Wildlife Trade (IWT) Challenge Fund the UK has committed over £900,000 to the Legal Intelligence for Cheetah Illicit Trade (LICIT) Fund to enhance national and regional capacity in the Horn of Africa, including in Somaliland, to fight wildlife crime by strengthening national and regional level legal capacity and increasing community capacity and ownership of wildlife resources.</p> more like this

answer text <p>Following the devastating fire in Hargeisa market on 1-2 April, the UK has led diplomatic and development response efforts on the ground, chairing an international coordination group and supporting a baseline fire safety assessment of marketplaces in Hargeisa, which has been shared with Hargeisa Municipality and the Somaliland fire department.</p><p>The UK, consistent with the entire international community, does not recognise Somaliland's unilateral declaration of independence. It is for Somaliland and Somalia to come to an agreement about their future relationship. Any new arrangements would need to be recognised by the African Union and neighbours in the region. The African Union is the pre-eminent regional body mandated to defend the sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence of its Member States, of which Somalia is one. The UK encourages dialogue between Mogadishu and Hargeisa on this issue.</p> more like this

For data protection reasons I cannot share information about a person without their permission.</p><p>Officials from the British Consulate-General in Hong Kong attend local court hearings related to a number of rights and freedoms issues and will continue to do so.</p><p>We continue to make clear to mainland Chinese and Hong Kong authorities our strong opposition to the National Security Law, which is being used to curtail freedoms, punish dissent and shrink the space for opposition, free press and civil society.</p> more like this

answer text <p>We have declared four breaches of the Sino-British Joint Declaration to date, three of which have occurred since 2020. These breaches include China's imposition of the National Security Law and changes to Hong Kong's electoral rules and system.</p><p>Reflecting the size and scale of developments in Hong Kong, on 13 March the UK declared China to be in a state of ongoing non-compliance with the Sino-British Joint Declaration - a demonstration of the growing gulf between Beijing's promises and its actions.</p> more like this

answer text <p>Our approach to China is comprehensive and coordinated across government, allowing us to robustly defend our values whilst preserving space for cooperation where our interests align.</p><p><strong> </strong></p><p>Earlier this year, we introduced the National Security Bill to Parliament; this Bill will help us to respond to the evolving threat from hostile activity by any state targeting the UK’s democracy, economy and values by making the UK an even harder target for those who seek to conduct hostile acts against the UK.</p><p><strong> </strong></p><p>The UK has also enhanced our economic security regime and taken robust action to build our domestic resilience. We have:</p><ul><li><p>Announced the application of Military End Use Controls to China as part of our revised export control regime, in order to prevent military programmes benefiting from our advanced technology and research by UK firms and institutions.</p></li><li><p>Strengthened visa screening of academics and researchers in sensitive areas of research through the Academic Technology Approval Scheme (ATAS).</p></li><li><p>Stepped up engagement with and guidance to our higher education and research sectors to alert them to potential risks.</p></li><li><p>Launched the National Security and Investment Act, giving the government new powers to address national security risks arising from investment.</p></li></ul><p><strong> </strong></p><p>The refresh of the UK’s Integrated Review of Security, Defence, Development and Foreign Policy will ensure that our approach continues to adapt to meet new challenges.</p><p> </p>

answer text <p>On 31 January 2021 the UK Government opened the BN(O) route for BN(O) status holders in Hong Kong. As of 30 September, over 1️4️4️,0️0️0️ visas been granted so far on the Hong Kong British National (Overseas) route (BN(O)). The route gives them and their eligible family members the opportunity to live, study and work in the UK on a pathway to citizenship. On 30 November 2022 the BN(O) route was expanded to allow the adult children of BN(O) status holders who were born on or after 1 July 1997 and are aged 18 or over the ability to apply to the route independently of their BN(O) parents. They will need to meet all remaining requirements of the route.</p> more like this
