answer text <p>We are not able, in the time available, to assess how many schools have received the pupil premium in total since its introduction in 2011 as this data is not held in the format requested. However, in the 2013-14 financial year, 19,986 schools attracted funding due to having one or more pupils who had been registered for free school meals at any point in the previous six years. There were also 1,349 schools (maintained special schools, special academies, pupil referral units (PRUs) or Alternative Provision academies) for which the local authority received any pupil premium funding due, in line with the conditions of grant. These figures do not take into account schools receiving pupil premium plus for looked after children, as this funding was also allocated to local authorities to distribute.</p><p> </p><p>The gap in pupils achieving Level 4 or above in key stage 2 reading and mathematics has narrowed from 19.3 to 16.2 percentage points between 2011 and 2013. The gap in pupils achieving at least five good GCSEs including English and mathematics has narrowed from 27.4 to 26.7 percentage points over the same period.</p><p> </p><p>Whilst it is too soon to see significant evidence of the impact of the policy on the national attainment statistics, our assessments of the policy show an improving picture. Ofsted concurs with this view, and in its most recent report of July 2014 stated that schools are using the funding more effectively than ever before to raise the attainment of their disadvantaged pupils, and that gaps in many schools are beginning to close, in some cases quite quickly.</p><p> </p>

The first cohort started training in January 2014 with 41 trainees; the second started in September 2014 with 54 trainees. Cohort one attracted 982 applications, cohort 2 attracted 250. In total 1,232 Service Leavers have applied for the Troops to Teachers programme. The data are broken down by gender, ethnicity and age group.</p><p> </p><p>The Ministry of Justice does not hold data centrally on the number of offenders within this group who had either a physical disability, mental impairment, learning disability or who were pregnant at the point at which they were recalled. To provide this information would require a manual trawl of individual prisoner case files and this would incur disproportionate cost.</p><p> </p><p /> <p /> <p><strong>Table 1: Number of Determinate Sentenced Prisoners who were Licence Recalls in 2013-14, broken down by Gender</strong></p><p><strong> </strong></p><table><tbody><tr><td><p><strong>Gender</strong></p></td><td><p><strong>Headcount</strong></p></td><td><p> </p></td></tr><tr><td><p>Male</p></td><td><p>16,362</p></td><td><p>96%</p></td></tr><tr><td><p>Female</p></td><td><p>720</p></td><td><p>4%</p></td></tr><tr><td><p>Total</p></td><td><p>17,082</p></td><td><p>100%</p></td></tr></tbody></table><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p><strong>Table 2: Number of Determinate Sentenced Prisoners who were Licence Recalls in 2013-14, broken down by Ethnicity</strong></p><p><strong> </strong></p><table><tbody><tr><td colspan="2"><p><strong>Ethnicity</strong></p></td><td><p><strong>Headcount</strong></p></td><td><p> </p></td></tr><tr><td colspan="2"><p>Declared BME</p></td><td><p>2,897</p></td><td><p>17%</p></td></tr><tr><td><p> </p></td><td><p><em>of which</em></p></td><td><p><em> </em></p></td><td><p> </p></td></tr><tr><td><p> </p></td><td><p><em>Declared Asian or Asian British</em></p></td><td><p><em>658</em></p></td><td><p>4%</p></td></tr><tr><td><p> </p></td><td><p><em>Declared Black or Black British</em></p></td><td><p><em>1,469</em></p></td><td><p>9%</p></td></tr><tr><td><p> </p></td><td><p><em>Declared Chinese and Other Ethnic Groups</em></p></td><td><p><em>70</em></p></td><td><p>0%</p></td></tr><tr><td><p> </p></td><td><p><em>Declared Mixed Ethnic Groups</em></p></td><td><p><em>700</em></p></td><td><p>4%</p></td></tr><tr><td colspan="2"><p>Declared White</p></td><td><p>14,109</p></td><td><p>83%</p></td></tr><tr><td colspan="2"><p>Not Declared</p></td><td><p>76</p></td><td><p>0%</p></td></tr><tr><td colspan="2"><p>Total</p></td><td><p>17,082</p></td><td><p> </p></td></tr></tbody></table><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p><strong>Table 3: Number of Determinate Sentenced Prisoners who were Licence Recalls in 2013-14, broken down by Age</strong></p><p><strong> </strong></p><table><tbody><tr><td><p><strong>Age Group</strong></p></td><td><p><strong>Headcount</strong></p></td><td><p> </p></td></tr><tr><td><p>15-17</p></td><td><p>25</p></td><td><p>0%</p></td></tr><tr><td><p>18-20</p></td><td><p>1501</p></td><td><p>9%</p></td></tr><tr><td><p>21-24</p></td><td><p>3541</p></td><td><p>21%</p></td></tr><tr><td><p>25-29</p></td><td><p>3631</p></td><td><p>21%</p></td></tr><tr><td><p>30-39</p></td><td><p>5493</p></td><td><p>32%</p></td></tr><tr><td><p>40-49</p></td><td><p>2277</p></td><td><p>13%</p></td></tr><tr><td><p>50-59</p></td><td><p>497</p></td><td><p>3%</p></td></tr><tr><td><p>60+</p></td><td><p>117</p></td><td><p>1%</p></td></tr><tr><td><p>Total</p></td><td><p>17,082</p></td><td><p> </p></td></tr></tbody></table><p> </p><p> </p>
