answer text <p>The Office of National Statistics (ONS) publishes regular updates on GDP figures, including their breakdown by sector. In terms of the economy as a whole, the ONS has calculated that GDP has increased by 1.9% in Q3 (July – September) 2017, relative to Q2 2016. answer text <p>The Ambassador attended the 4th Europe-Iran Forum where he participated in a panel discussion on the nuclear deal. The Ambassador spoke about the importance we attach to progress on dual national consular cases in a BBC Persian interview recorded at the forum. The Ambassador continues to raise all of our dual national cases, including Mrs Zaghari-Ratcliffe and Mr Foroughi, at every opportunity, most recently this month with Deputy Foreign Minister Takht Ravanchi. I also raised our dual national cases in a phone call with the Iranian Ambassador to the UK on 10 October.</p> more like this

answer text <p>The US Government is well aware of our long-standing view on the closure of the Guantanamo detention facility. Senior Government officials continue to take opportunities to underline this position to the US Administration, but the Foreign Secretary has not personally raised it.</p><p>The Foreign Office recently received confirmation from the US Government that the practice of medically monitoring hunger striking detainees in Guantanamo Bay has not changed. The US Government stated that close attention is paid to the condition of prisoner health, particularly if there are signs of serious deterioration. On 17 October, a Pentagon Spokesperson said that the practice of permitting the involuntary feeding of hunger-striking detainees in Guantanamo Bay will continue, if US medical officials decide that artificial feeding is required to prevent death or serious self-harm.</p> more like this

answer text <p>The UK Five Year Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) strategy, 2013-2018, published in September 2013, had no associated funding to support implementation. All activity has been supported from within existing business plans of the organisations committed to tackling AMR.</p><p> </p><p>A record of what is spent directly on tackling AMR is not centrally maintained but examples of funded initiatives include NHS England’s use of Quality Premium and Commissioning for Quality and Innovation programmes to drive down inappropriate prescribing and a range of AMR research investments and awareness raising initiatives.</p> more like this

answer text <p>The UK’s publicly funded fusion research is led by the UK Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA).</p><p> </p><p>UKAEA receives direct funding from the Euratom Research and Training Programme (£57.3 m in 2017/18 and £55.1 m in 2018/19) primarily for research carried out at the Joint European Torus (JET).</p><p> </p><p>UKAEA also receives grant funding for fusion research from the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (£26.1m in 2017/18 and £27.0m in 2018/19).</p><p> </p><p>UKAEA also receives additional funding from the UK Government for specific projects which have been worth £5.4m so far in 2017/18. Firm allocations for the financial year 2018/19 and beyond have not yet been made.</p><p> </p><p>The UK is also a member of Fusion for Energy, the EU based partnership delivering its contribution to the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor, the next generation international fusion project in France. The EU expects to contribute €380m in 2018 and €427m in 2019 to ITER. The EU budget beyond 2020 is subject to agreement with EU member states.</p><p> </p><p>Information relating to private sector investment in fusion in the UK is not available.</p><p> </p><p> </p>

answer text <p>When recruiting civil servants, managers are able to review candidates’ previous experience and career history as part of our recruitment policies and campaigns. As a result, the Department for International Trade (DIT) has a strong and capable trade policy team which has grown significantly since its establishment in July 2016 and is continuing to grow.</p><p> </p><p>DIT has almost 3,600 staff, including our ‘Trade Policy Group’ of over 400 people.</p><p> </p><p>Over the summer, we also recruited internationally recognised expert Crawford Falconer as DIT’s Chief Trade Negotiation Adviser and Second Permanent Secretary.
