answer text
The Government is committed to preventing further exploitation of vulnerable individuals who have already been victims of trafficking. Through The Salvation Army adult victim care contract in England and Wales, all potential victims who are referred into the National Referral Mechanism are provided with specialised support for a minimum period of 45 days, in excess of our international obligations. This includes work with victims to plan how they can move on safely to integrate into UK society or to return to their home country, and building resilience to avoid re-trafficking for child victims. We are currently trialling specialist child trafficking advocates who will provide dedicated support and guidance, including promoting the child’s safety and wellbeing, particularly in light of the risk of children going missing and being re-trafficked.

Implementing the Modern Slavery Strategy and the Modern Slavery Act 2015 will enhance the law enforcement response to trafficking, and help protect individuals from re-trafficking by stopping those who are responsible from exploiting further victims.

answer text
The Lord Chancellor is appealing this judgment, with the Home Office an interested party. In the meantime, anyone who has had a fast track appeal who is still in detention awaiting removal has been afforded the opportunity to seek legal advice and submit further representations before any removal action is taken to ensure there has been no unfairness as a result of their appeals being processed under the Fast Track Rules or through their application being processed in the Detained Fast Track process.

A Written Ministerial Statement was laid on 2 July announcing a decision to pause the DFT process to review the way in which its safeguards operate. The interim process for deciding asylum cases in detention will be in accordance with general detention criteria and the principal tribunal procedure rules for appeals.
more like this

answer text
Her Majesty’s Passport Office has increased the number of staff processing passport applications made overseas by 36% since last summer. Staff deal with both adult and child applications from all countries so increased resources benefit all customers. In May 2015 99.9% of straightforward applications to renew a child’s passport were processed in 4 weeks from receipt of the application and 99.9% of straightforward applications for a child’s first passport were processed in 6 weeks from receipt of the application.

It is recognised that the time taken can be substantially longer in non-straightforward cases (e.g. in unstable countries affected by conflict or where a particularly complex assessment to verify British nationality must be made). Processing times will vary due to reliance on authorities overseas to authenticate supporting evidence or the logistical difficulties encountered in arranging interview locations and obtaining missing supporting documents from customers. We work with the Foreign and Commonwealth Office to address the needs of customers in emergency situations but must also ensure that the integrity of the British passport is protected as we do so.

We have continued to keep them under review and to make adjustments in light of feedback on their operation and impact. We have also taken into account the findings of the courts, including the Court of Appeal judgment upholding the lawfulness of the minimum income threshold for sponsoring family migrants under the new rules.
