<p>The Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, my right hon. Friend
the Member for Runnymede and Weybridge (Mr Hammond) visited Iraq from 25 to 26 April,
when he met Prime Minister Abadi, President Massoum and other members of the Government
of Iraq (GoI). During his visit he discussed the situation in the region, the importance
of political reform and reconciliation, the military campaign against Islamic State
of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), and the need for a comprehensive stabilisation plan
for areas liberated from ISIL.</p><p>Through our Embassy in Baghdad and Consulate
General in Erbil we remain in regular contact with the GoI, and continue to support
PM Abadi and his efforts to ensure a unified response to the current situation.</p><p>As
part of the Global Coalition to Counter-ISIL, we are working with the GoI to defeat
ISIL in both Iraq and Syria.</p>
