answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 28/11/2014 answer text <p>The Government is committed to our goal of ending child poverty in the UK by 2020.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>The 2014-17 Child Poverty Strategy outlines our plans to tackle the root causes of poverty, including worklessness, low earnings and educational failure. This approach reflects the reality of child poverty in the UK today and is the only way to achieve lasting change to protect the poorest in society.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>Under this Government, 300,000 fewer children are in relative income poverty, around 390,000 fewer children are growing up in workless families, the attainment gap for deprived pupils has narrowed, and we have recently seen the largest annual fall in unemployment on record.<sup>[1]</sup></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>But central Government cannot, by itself, end child poverty. Where people live matters. This Government has taken action to give local areas more freedom to do what people want and need locally including by providing local data that helps users identify specific local challenges. We want every school to promote fundamental British values, including mutual respect and tolerance of those of different faiths and beliefs. Citizenship education, as part of the new national curriculum, should cover the diverse national, regional, religious and ethnic identities in the United Kingdom and the need for mutual respect and understanding. We have also strengthened teachers’ powers and provided additional funding to deal with bullying, including racist bullying. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 27/11/2014 answer text <p>The Government has sent a clear message to all schools that bullying is unacceptable and that they should take steps to prevent it from happening and to tackle it when it does.</p><p>While it was a matter for schools to determine whether to mark anti-bullying week, the Department for Education supported activities held as part of anti-bullying week. Nick Gibb, Minister of State for School Reform, attended an event hosted by the Diana Award to celebrate the work of its anti-bullying ambassadors. Edward Timpson, Minister of State for Children and Families, attended an event hosted by the Anti-Bullying Alliance, which focused on the bullying of children with special educational needs and disabilities. He also attended an anti-bullying assembly at the Ark Global Academy in London which featured WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment, which champions anti-bullying in the USA) as part of the lead-in to anti-bullying week.</p><p>As well as raising the profile of the occasion via the Department’s twitter account, we also published two pieces of advice at the beginning of anti-bullying week. The first is to on help teachers to guard themselves against cyberbullying and what to do if it happens. In May, we published our refreshed cross-Government hate crime action plan—Challenge it, Report it, Stop it, setting out the progress we have made and further steps we will take to address the issue. The government is driving forward work to tackle homophobic hostility and hate crime. We have toughened up sentencing and are working closely with the police and other agencies to increase reporting, improve support and prevent these terrible crimes happening in the first place.</p><p><br>As part of the government’s action plan to tackle homophobia, we are working alongside the Equality and Human Rights Commission on a project to improve the reporting and criminal justice outcomes of victims of hate crime from lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans communities.</p><p>The Home Office does not hold information specifically on homophobic crimes – we have information on hate crimes based on sexual orientation but cannot break this down – it may also include crimes against heterosexuals (and perceived heterosexuals). The Home Office only receives recorded hate crime data at the police force area level and only holds data for the last three years. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 01/12/2014 answer text <p>Arrests related to hate crime are not separately identifiable from arrests data reported centrally to the Home Office.<br><br>Data provided by the Ministry of Justice on the number of defendants proceeded against at magistrates' court for offences relating to acts intended to stir up religious hatred or hatred on the grounds of sexual orientation, under Sections 29B to 29G of the Public Order Act 1986, in England, from 2004-2013 (latest data available) can be viewed in table 1.
