answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 30/01/2023 answer text <p>In 2022, the Government published research by Isos Partnership looking at how Local Authorities are ensuring sufficient places and supporting vulnerable children. This is available at: <a href="https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/local-authority-provision-for-school-places-and-support-for-vulnerable-children" target="_blank">https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/local-authority-provision-for-school-places-and-support-for-vulnerable-children</a>.</p><p>Local Authorities have a statutory duty, under Section 14 of the Education Act 1996, to ensure that there are sufficient primary and secondary school places for all children living in their area. The Department provides capital funding through the Basic Need grant to support Local Authorities to meet their statutory duty to provide sufficient school places, based on their own forecast data. They can use this funding to provide places in new schools or through expansions of existing schools, and can work with any school in their local area, including academies and free schools.</p><p>Trusts are expected to work collaboratively with Local Authorities, dioceses and other schools in the area, to ensure that there is a co-ordinated approach to place planning and delivery and support Local authorities to meet their legal duty by providing additional places where they are needed. The Department engages with Local Authorities on a regular basis to review their plans for creating additional places and to consider alternatives where necessary. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 27/01/2023 answer text <p>In order to address concerns around police vetting caused by high-profile cases of police abuse of power, the Home Secretary has asked the College of Policing to strengthen the statutory code of practice for police vetting to make the obligations all forces must legally follow stricter and clearer. Separately, the National Police Chiefs’ Council has asked all police forces to check their officers and staff against the police national database to help identify anyone who is unfit to serve.</p><p>The National DNA Database (NDNAD) can only hold the DNA profiles of people arrested for a recordable offence, under the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984. We have no plans to add the DNA profiles of police officers to the NDNAD.</p><p>The Police Regulations 2003 set out that a candidate for appointment as a police officer or special constable must undergo biometric vetting, with consent, and the chief officer must be satisfied with the results prior to appointment. The NOC receives funding from NERC’s non-competitive funding and the wider community to pursue science that is nationally and internationally important.</p><p> </p><p>The NOC was part of NERC. From 1 November 2019, NOC operates as an independent research institute, a charitable company limited by guarantee. This new structure ensures that NOC is more agile, financially more resilient with more freedoms and flexibilities. The Digital Markets Unit (DMU), within the CMA, will oversee and enforce the new regime.</p><p>The new regime will address the far-reaching power of the most powerful tech firms. While new technologies are delivering huge value to consumers and businesses, a small number of firms exert immense control across strategically critical services online.
