answer text <p>The Department for Business, Innovation and Skills works with its partners to ensure investments are directed to areas in which the UK excels and has potential to excel. UK Trade and Investment helps identify foreign markets of strategic importance. Innovate UK and the Catapult Centres work to commercialise new and emerging technologies in areas where there are significant global market opportunities and a critical mass of UK capability. Innovate UK’s support now includes National Contact Points providing advice to applicants and the Knowledge Transfer Network helping companies to identify suitable opportunities. answer text <p>Since 2010 UKTI has more than doubled the number of businesses it helps on an annual basis, whilst UKEF has provided £14.5bn of support for exports since 2010-11.The government’s productivity plan set out further steps to build stronger trading links with emerging markets, especially China, India and Brazil, and to mobilise the whole of government behind exporting, working alongside a more effective UKTI and better export finance. answer text <p>The Government has driven a wide ranging programme of reforms to help Small and Medium Sized Enterprises to gain access to finance and to support competition in the SME lending market.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>The Government introduced the Current Account Switch Service which is a free-to-use service for customers that makes it easier, quicker and more reliable for customers to switch banks. At Budget 2015 the scheme was extended to include 99% of SMEs.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>This year the Government will lay final legislation requiring major UK banks both to share SME credit information with other lenders and to offer to share the details of SMEs rejected for a loan with online platforms that can match them to alternative finance providers. Alongside these reforms, the British Business Bank is increasing and diversifying the supply of finance available to SMEs, and aims to facilitate up to £10 billion of finance by 2019.</p><p> </p> more like this
