answer text <p>We want to ensure that high quality apprenticeships are as accessible as possible to all people from all backgrounds.</p><p> </p><p>Apprenticeships already disproportionately benefit people from lower socio-economic backgrounds with apprentices more likely to come from disadvantaged backgrounds - compared to the population as a whole, 25 per cent of apprentices live in the most disadvantaged fifth of areas.</p><p> </p><p>Our apprenticeship funding policy supports individuals from disadvantaged areas by providing a cash payment to training providers when they train apprentices living in the top 27% of deprived areas.</p> more like this

answer text <p>Greater Manchester Combined Authority, in conjunction with the Greater Manchester Local Enterprise Partnership, are best placed to develop schemes to improve local connectivity. To that end, the government has provided Greater Manchester with £2,500,000 to develop their HS2 Growth Strategies, which will look at the transport requirements for making the most of HS2. The government will continue to work with Greater Manchester to help deliver these plans.</p> more like this

answer text <p>The 2015 Spending Review reconfirmed the Government’s commitment to the programme providing a long-term funding envelope of £55.7bn in 2015 prices. Of this £28.55bn was allocated to Phase Two. This allocation includes funding for infrastructure for the Northern and Midlands sections of High Speed 2. answer text <p>Leigh’s closest HS2 station, Wigan North Western, will be served by HS2 trains following completion of HS2 Phase One in 2026, and by 2033 will be served by HS2 trains from London, Birmingham, Preston and Scotland.</p><p> </p><p>The department has made no assessment of the costs of a direct rail line or rail journey times between Leigh and HS2.</p><p> </p><p>The government has provided Greater Manchester Combined Authority with £2.5m to develop HS2 Growth Strategies, which include plans for improving connectivity across Greater Manchester to the planned HS2 stations. Greater Manchester Combined Authority and Transport for Greater Manchester are advancing their wider plans for connectivity across the city region through their Greater Manchester 2040 Transport Strategy.</p><p> </p><p>The government has committed £300m to future-proof HS2 to support Transport for the North’s ambition for Northern Powerhouse Rail (NPR) between the North’s largest cities. Transport for the North are currently developing the business case for NPR, which includes investigating serving other significant economic centres.</p><p> </p>
