answer text
The UK contributes to the EU budget, through which funding has been made available for Greece. The Greek Government is responsible for the humanitarian response in Greece and makes use of EU funding for this purpose.

In support of the EU-Turkey Statement the UK continues to second experts to the EU Commission to support its efforts in working with Greece to improve living and security conditions for migrants in the camps on the island hotspots. The UK also continues to provide experts (flow managers, vulnerability experts, and caseworkers) to support the work of the European Asylum Support Office in Greece in line with the needs identified. UK experts pay attention to protecting vulnerable migrants, including unaccompanied children, from smuggling, trafficking and exploitation.

The UK separately provides interpreters to support the work of the Greek Reception and Identification Service in the island camps. Our interpreters support the processing of arriving migrants, including through facilitating vulnerability and medical assessments to ensure those most in need of help can access it from the Greek authorities.

Our experts and interpreters receive consistent positive feedback from the EU Commission and the Greek authorities for the valuable work they continue to carry out on the islands.

answer text
The UK supports freedom of religious belief for all Yemenis. On 28 September the UK voted for a resolution at the UN Human Rights Council that emphasised the international community’s concern at the plight of the Baha’i and called for the immediate release of all Baha’i detained due to their religious belief. The persecution of members of the Baha’i community in areas of Yemen under Houthi control due to their religious beliefs is a serious violation of international human rights law. New cases of arbitrary detention and continuing reports of the abuse of detainees by the Houthis are deeply concerning, and we wholly condemn this mistreatment. We have raised our concerns with the Houthi authorities.
more like this

answer text
There is no information held about successful prosecutions for offences connected with trafficking in persons in North Africa, the Middle East and Europe.

However, the UK shares relevant information on organised immigration crime (OIC) with partners in source, transit and destination countries for illegal migration. This takes place both on a bilateral basis and through the European Migrant Smuggling Centre within Europol.

Through the multi-agency Organised Immigration Crime Taskforce, the government is improving the intelligence picture around OIC, modern slavery and human trafficking, undermining the criminal business model and building the capacity of upstream law enforcement partners to tackle the threat.

The police transformation program includes an analytical team, the Joint Slavery and Trafficking Analysis Centre (JSTAC) which is building and developing the strategic intelligence picture by improving data collection and focused analysis of the information gathered. To aid in international dissemination of information, a seconded national expert to Europol to coordinate activity between UK law enforcement and European counterparts during cross-border investigations has been implemented.
