The Scottish Government has published its legacy programme and initiatives for the Glasgow Games.</p><p> </p><p>The UK Government is supporting a joint business conference with the Scottish Government and the Commonwealth Business Council and the British Business House. During the visit of Pakistan Prime Minister Sharif in April, the Prime Minister, my Right Hon. Friend the Member for Witney (Mr Cameron), raised our concerns as well as the need for reforms. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 14/07/2014 answer text <p>Promoting and protecting the freedom of religion or belief is a priority for UK foreign policy. We pursue it in our bilateral work and lobbying of other Governments, and through our human rights programme funding. We have also stepped up training in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) on the influence of faith, in many parts of the world, on governments, communities and individuals.</p><p>Our work is based on the full definition of freedom of religion or belief as set out in article 18 the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. This includes the right to manifest your faith, either alone or in community with others and in public or private, through teaching, practice, worship and observance.</p><p>The FCO Minister responsible for freedom of religion or belief, the Senior Minister of State, my noble Friend the right hon. Baroness Warsi, has convened meetings of international leaders to generate support for practical steps to promote freedom of religion or belief and to fight religious intolerance. At the Global Summit to End Sexual Violence in Conflict, Baroness Warsi chaired a dialogue between political and faith leaders, and supported a separate non-governmental organization (NGO)-led event, to explore the role faith groups play, and to enlist their support for the objectives of the summit.</p><p>Freedoms of association and peaceful assembly, enshrined in both the Universal Declaration and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, are fundamental for democratic societies, where people must be able to gather (formally or informally), to express themselves, and to have a meaningful say in issues that affect them. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 21/07/2014 answer text <p>The Government takes extremely seriously the threat posed by those who travel from the UK to join terrorist movements abroad and who might return with enhanced capabilities which they may intend to use against the UK or the intention of radicalising others.<br><br>The investigation and monitoring of individuals who pose a threat to our national security is an operational matter for the police and Security Service. Prosecution is always the preferred option for tackling terrorists. But where this is not possible a range of other disruptions may be used. <br><br>These include disrupting travel by cancelling British passports on public interest grounds, dual nationals’ deprivation of British citizenship and exclusion from the UK to prevent their return, and interviews at the border as part of Counter Terrorist investigations. <br><br>We have also proscribed a number of terrorist groups active in the Syrian conflict, including ISIS. The Belfast Office Full Time Equivalent (FTE) <br>workforce in June 2014 was 216.29 compared with 147.76 FTE in June 2012. <br>The increase in staff has been to deal with the introduction of processing<br>of work from overseas in 2013-14 and the introduction of an evening shift in<br>January 2014 to assist in dealing with UK applications. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 21/07/2014 answer text <p>The UK has a proud tradition of providing protection to those who need it and fully considers all asylum applications lodged in the UK in accordance with our international obligations. However there is no obligation on us to consider applications or enquiries made on behalf of people abroad about asylum in the UK. The approach of both the UK and the European Union is that an individual should apply for protection from the authorities in the first available safe country, irrespective of whether or not it is a party to the 1951 Refugee Convention, failing which the local office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) should be able to assist. <br><br>Moreover, under international law, someone seeking asylum must first be outside the country of his nationality or habitual residence, since international protection cannot be provided while a person is within the territorial jurisdiction of his home country.<br><br>The UK will continue to fulfil its responsibilities to those who arrive within our borders and seek protection.<br><br>While there is no provision within our Immigration Rules for someone to be given permission to travel to the UK to seek asylum, the Government operates a Gateway Protection Programme, established several years ago with the aim of bringing genuine refugees direct to the UK. This includes working to end religious intolerance and persecution and we strongly condemn any alleged persecution and will continue to uphold the rights of citizens, regardless of faith, ethnicity or belief.</p><p>We only provide aid directly to governments where we are satisfied that they share our commitments to reduce poverty and respect human rights.
