answer text
When it comes to competitive sport, His Majesty’s Government believes that fairness and safety has to be the primary consideration. We are clear that a way forward is needed which protects and shows compassion to all athletes, whilst being clear that the integrity of competition must be maintained. HM Government recently set out this position in the sport strategy, published in August.

The national governing bodies of sports set their own policies for who can participate in their sports domestically. The Sports Council Equality Group, which includes Sport England, has produced guidance to help governing bodies with this process. The Group published guidance relating to the inclusion of transgender people in September 2021, after extensive consultation and a review of scientific research. This guidance encourages governing bodies to conduct meaningful and respectful consultation within their sport to ensure that a wide range of opinions are sought.
more like this

answer text
The deadline for 2015 Basic Payment Scheme (BPS) payments remains 30 June 2016 and as stated in the response of 17 June, this is the deadline the Rural Payments Agency was working towards for the remaining top up BPS payments. On 8 June, Commissioner Hogan confirmed his intention to extend the date by which Member States may make CAP direct payments without the usual reductions in the rate of reimbursement from the EU to the Member States concerned. This does not constitute an extension to the payment window. It means that, subject to a successful request, payments can continue to be made after 30 June without the application of the usual reductions for late payments on the Member State.

We are currently assessing the UK position in terms of the value of payments made by 30 June and the expected value of payments to be made before 15 October for each of the four UK paying agencies. Once this assessment has been completed we will be in a position to decide whether the UK needs to submit a request to the Commission for such penalties to be waived.

answer text
We recognise that many small businesses engage with larger businesses, forming a valuable part of their supply chains. Strong and robust supply chains are vital to the continued growth of the UK economy and there are a number of activities underway across various sectors that seek to build capability and capacity in the supply chain, thereby supporting businesses and helping them to grow.

We are also clear that large companies should trade fairly with small suppliers and that is why we will shortly be consulting on proposals to establish a small business conciliation service to help small businesses resolve any disputes. For many small businesses, late payment of invoices is a particular concern and we have introduced a number of measures to help encourage larger businesses to pay on time. This includes a new reporting requirement on the UK’s 15,000 largest companies from 2016) to shine a light on poor payment practices, and a strengthened Prompt Payment Code to introduce a maximum 60 day payment term and allow a Code Compliance Board to challenge grossly unfair payment practices. We will also be consulting on giving wider powers to representative bodies to challenge grossly unfair terms.
