answer text <p>Figures for the number of legal aid claims and the amount of expenditure in each local authority area are available on an annual basis via the Legal Aid Statistics in the June release found at <a href="https://www.gov.uk/government/statistics/legal-aid-statistics-january-to-march-2017" target="_blank">https://www.gov.uk/government/statistics/legal-aid-statistics-january-to-march-2017</a> in the file entitled Legal aid statistics England and Wales provider and area data 2016 to 2017. This geographic breakdown is based on the location of the office of the legal aid provider, not the address of the client. The published figures relate to cases closed as opposed to cases started, and cover almost all legal aid schemes, with the exception of telephone advice and police station work. Data on cases started could only be provided at disproportionate cost.</p><p> </p><p>The table at Annex A provides the total number of legal aid claims in each local authority for each financial year from 2011-12 until 2016-17.</p>

Legal aid is available to domestic violence victims with private family law problems where requirements are met and was granted in over 12,000 cases last year. answer text <p>(a) In the last 12 months in the Ashfield constituency the number of Personal Independence Payment (PIP) claims initially disallowed, where this decision was upheld at mandatory reconsideration (MR), and where the decision was changed at appeal is 30. This figure represents 50% of outcomes of appeals against decisions where the claim was initially disallowed and this was upheld at MR. This figure also represents 4% of all disallowed claims in the Ashfield constituency in this time. Over the same time period, 560 PIP awards were made.</p><p> </p><p>Period covered: August 2016 – July 2017 (latest available data).</p><p> </p><p>(b) The information for Employment Support Allowance (ESA) is not readily available and can only be obtained at a disproportionate cost.</p><p> </p> more like this
