answer text
On 31 March 2014, the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) employed 4,951 full time equivalent staff compared to 5332 on 31 March 2019. The increase is largely attributable to the DVLA bringing its IT services in-house in 2015. The DVLA has also increased the number of staff working in its Drivers Medical section to cater for increases in medical notifications.

Specific information on average processing times for customers in Northern Ireland is not readily available. The information could only be retrieved at disproportionate cost as it would require the interrogation of all vehicle-related transactions to identify those specific to Northern Ireland customers.

All DVLA performance measures and achievement against those targets can be found in its annual report and accounts for each financial year along with relevant explanations. These can be viewed online at:

https://www.gov.uk/government/collections/dvla-annual-reports-and-accounts
