answer text <p>In the last 12 months a single ram imported from an affected area of Europe tested positive for Bluetongue virus shortly after its arrival here as part of our post import testing regime and was culled quickly. answer text <p>Over the years, the Farm Animal Welfare Committee (FAWC), has provided Government with advice on all laying hen production systems, including free range systems. FAWC recognises that the key to ensuring the health and welfare of farm animals in different production systems is stockmanship and the correct application of husbandry standards.</p><p> </p><p>As part of a programme of reforms to safeguard and enhance the welfare of animals, Defra’s new statutory Code of Practice for the Welfare of Laying Hens and Pullets came into force in August. It provides improved and up-to-date guidance for owners and keepers on how to comply with legislation relating to all permitted production systems, including free range systems.</p> more like this

answer text <p>The Government is committed to offering stronger protections for private sector tenants and ensuring that people are living in safe and good quality properties.</p><p>Tenants are protected from eviction through the Protection from Eviction Act 1977, the Housing Act 1988, the Housing Act 1985 and through the retaliatory eviction provisions in the Deregulation Act 2015.</p><p>Other legislation includes the Landlord and Tenant Act 1985 requiring landlords to keep electrical installations in the property in repair and proper working order and the Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS), introduced by the Housing Act 2004 to assess health and safety in residential properties. The Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarm (England) regulations protect tenants from death or injury in the home caused by smoke and carbon monoxide poisoning, and the Energy Efficiency (Private Rented Sector Property) (England and Wales) Regulations improve the energy efficiency of domestic privately rented properties.</p><p>Government is now going further and has announced a mandatory requirement on landlords in the private rented sector to ensure electrical installations in their property are inspected every five years and is supporting the Homes (Fitness for Human Habitation) Bill.</p>

answer text <p>The Portas Review was published in December 2011, and the Government accepted all but one of the 28 recommendations. This included establishing 27 Portas Pilots. Following the Portas Pilots, the Government helped established over 330 Town Teams, each with £10,000 of funding.</p><p>We recognise that consumer behaviour has changed since 2011. We are taking action to help the high street evolve.
