answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 16/02/2023 answer text <p>The United Kingdom is currently experiencing its biggest ever outbreak of Avian Influenza (AI) in poultry and captive birds. Defra’s approach aims to reduce adverse impacts on the rural and wider economy, the public, rural communities and the environment (including impact on wildlife), whilst protecting public health and minimising the overall cost of any outbreak.</p><p> </p><p>During AI outbreaks the release of game birds in the UK is tightly restricted. Due to the global nature of AI, countries such as France which supply the UK with gamebird hatching eggs have also been affected by AI.</p><p> </p><p>Biosecurity at our borders is also paramount in protecting our game farming and shooting sectors. The restrictions put in place on imports, limiting the number of gamebirds that can enter the country, ultimately exist to prevent further outbreaks in poultry farms and gamebird premises.</p><p> </p><p>We recognise that any sustained interruption to normal supplies of gamebirds due to AI outbreaks is likely to impact those business that make available gamebirds for commercial hunting in the UK.</p><p> </p><p>We continue to monitor the current situation both in Europe and globally, as well as the effectiveness of any disease control measures taken. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 20/02/2023 answer text <p>The Government is aware of the Cochrane Review published on 30 January 2023, which concludes that there is uncertainty about whether wearing masks helps to slow the spread of respiratory viruses based on the studies assessed.</p><p>The National Infection Prevention and Control Manual (NIPCM), published on the National Health Service website in April 2022 in an online-only format and most recently updated in January 2023, is consistent with the recommendations in the Cochrane Review. The NIPCM is used by healthcare providers in all healthcare settings in England and is complemented by pathogen/disease specific guidance produced by the UK Health Security Agency.</p><p>The NIPCM does not require patients or visitors to NHS settings to routinely wear a face mask. For example, the Committee on the Medical Effects of Air Pollutants highlighted in their statement from March 2015, <em>Statement on the evidence for differential health effects of particulate matter according to source or components</em>, that adverse health effects, including changes in lung function, are associated with exposure to traffic-derived pollutants. A copy of this statement is attached.</p><p>Additionally, The Royal College of Physicians’ and Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health reported evidence in February 2016 in <em>Every Breath We Take: The Lifelong Impact Of Air Pollution</em> that lung function growth in children is suppressed by long-term exposure to air pollution. In 2022/23, the Grant increased by 2.81% to £3.417 billion.
