answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 27/06/2019 answer text <p>Policing is a devolved matter in Northern Ireland and operational capability is a matter for the Chief Constable.</p><p> </p><p>The Secretary of State for Northern Ireland regularly engages with the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) to discuss their priorities.</p><p> </p><p>The UK Government provides the PSNI with the additional security funding it asks for and needs to ensure that they have the resource (including officers) to tackle the SEVERE threat from Northern Ireland related terrorism.</p><p> </p><p>PSNI received £230m additional security funding in the last parliament and £160m in this one. In addition, the UK Government has provided PSNI with £16.5m to help prepare for EU exit. This funding will help the PSNI manage pressures and contingencies arising from EU exit preparations which fall in the 2019/20 financial year. Drivers are permitted to undertake pre-booked work outside of the area in which they are licensed. Together the new clocks for the Chamber and Grand Committee cost £23,709.60. This includes the cost of the bespoke design, software, hardware and installation. It is inclusive of VAT.</p><p>The clocks are maintained by the same company that maintains the clocks in the House of Commons. Together the two Houses pay an annual maintenance fee of £3,596 per annum. The supercomputer will be hundreds of thousands of times more powerful than a traditional desktop computer and will be used to run massive research simulations. This project is being delivered and supported by UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) through the Engineering and Physical Sciences, and the Natural Environment Research Councils.</p><p> </p><p>E-infrastructure, including supercomputing, is also a critical strand within UKRI’s national research and innovation infrastructure roadmap programme. This is seeking to increase our understanding of the UK’s current capabilities and future requirements with a final report expected later in 2019. We want to ensure that future investments in High Performance Computing will deliver benefits across research and innovation, including to tech start-ups and Small and Medium-sized Enterprises. (SMEs).
