answer text <p>The information requested could be provided only at disproportionate cost as central records are not kept for all aspects of the management of prisoners sentenced to an indeterminate sentence of Imprisonment for Public Protection (IPP).</p><p> </p><p>HM Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS) and the Parole Board will continue to work together to improve the progression of IPP prisoners. We have established a new IPP Progression Team, to ensure that the parole process is operating as efficiently as possible. In 2015, we released 512 IPP prisoners – the highest number of annual releases to date. HMPPS will continue to invest in interventions to assist prisoners to both reduce their risk and demonstrate such progression to the Parole Board.</p> more like this

answer text <p>The illicit use of mobile phones undermines the safety and security of prison. We are taking urgent and decisive action to tackle this issue.</p><p> </p><p>Under measures introduced in August 2016 the National Offender Management Service is one of a number agencies that can apply for Telecommunications Restriction Orders at Court to block specific mobile phones being used in prisons. Each order may specify multiple phones. Since the commencement of the powers, more than 150 phones have been disconnected through use of these orders. Further breakdown of these figures cannot be disclosed because this could disrupt ongoing law enforcement activity.</p> more like this

From 2012, full-time regional corruption prevention managers were allocated to the Corruption Prevention unit and have been included in the above figures.</p><p> </p><p>In addition, all prisons have an identified Local Corruption Prevention Manager (LCPM), and in some cases a deputy, who develops intelligence, raises awareness of corruption prevention and supports staff to report any corruption related concerns. This role is carried out in addition to other duties they may hold in a prison and so have not been included in the figures provided.</p><p> </p><p>The vast majority of staff undertake their duties with honesty and integrity. However, the Prison Service is committed to investigating and eliminating corruption to ensure prisons remain a safe and secure environment for staff, prisoners and visitors.</p>
