answer text <p>The System Operator is responsible for managing constraints on the networks. It does this by curtailing a type of generation, for example wind, and turning up an alternative generation, as needed. Costs are funded through electricity bills, not through the Exchequer. Annual network constraint costs for 2023 were £1.4bn (2023 prices).</p><p> </p><p>To manage the level of constraints on the system and ensure the UK's homes can be powered by clean, green energy in future, government is working with Ofgem, network owners and others to halve the build process from 14 years to 7 through our Transmission Acceleration Action Plan.</p> more like this

answer text <p>The Department for Business and Trade works with the construction sector to support decarbonisation and achieving Government’s net zero targets.</p><p> </p><p>This support includes increased delivery of energy efficiency and heat decarbonisation, the use of lower carbon materials and products such as cement and concrete, and tools to help the sector manage carbon and understand whole life carbon considerations of infrastructure and the built environment.</p><p> </p><p>The approach on what materials and products, including lower carbon materials, could be used in construction projects is agnostic, and will be dependent on the type of infrastructure or built environment structure being constructed.</p> more like this

answer text <p>Industrial carbon capture and storage use will play a crucial role in deep decarbonisation of heavy industries that would otherwise have no alternative to decarbonise, including in the construction sector. CCUS is the only viable solution for addressing process emissions, such as from cement production.</p><p> </p><p>The Hanson Padeswood Cement Works and Buxton Lime Net Zero projects were selected as two of the eight projects to move to negotiations as part of our Track-1 Project Negotiation List.</p><p> </p><p>The Department for Business and Trade is working with the construction sector through the Construction Leadership Council, with a key priority being net zero and biodiversity, to support decarbonisation in the sector.</p> more like this

answer text <p>In 2021, Defra ran a call for evidence to gather data on the potential impacts of different types of labelling reform for animal welfare. We received over 1,600 responses and a summary of these responses is available on GOV.UK. The evidence provided suggested that there is public appetite for improved welfare labelling, however we do not consider the time is right to consult on proposals to reform labelling for animal welfare.</p><p> </p><p>We will continue to work with stakeholders to explore how we can harness the market to improve food information for consumers and raise animal welfare standards.</p> more like this

answer text <p>All investments made by British International Investment (BII) are aligned with HMG's fossil fuels and other relevant policy. In 2017, BII made an investment into Africa Infrastructure Investment Fund III (AIIF III), which then invested a proportion of this in a liquefied natural gas (LNG) importation project, the Tema LNG Import Terminal project, in February 2020. The commercial operations are expected to commence in 2025. This project will not produce natural gas but will have an import capacity to Ghana of 1.7 million tons of gas per year. BII has not invested in LNG production or export projects in Ghana.</p> more like this
