Friend the Secretary of State said to the House on 17 January, the Government will continue to discuss with Hitachi bringing forward new nuclear at Wylfa. He also said that the Government will set out a new approach to financing new nuclear in the planned energy White paper in the summer. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 21/01/2019 answer text <p>I have had regular discussions with my ministerial colleagues, Hitachi, Horizon Nuclear Power and the Japanese Government regarding the proposed Wylfa Newydd power plant, as well as visiting senior executives of Hitachi in Tokyo in August 2017. I recently met with the Japanese Prime Minister and representatives of Hitachi at Downing Street last week. We fully recognise that Hitachi’s decision will be a disappointment to people in Anglesey and North Wales, especially given the efforts of many stakeholders to support this project. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 20/12/2018 answer text <p>On the 4 June 2018, my rt. hon. the Secretary of State confirmed to Parliament that the Government has entered negotiations with Hitachi in relation to Horizon’s proposed Wylfa Newydd project, based on Anglesey in North Wales. The negotiations with Hitachi on agreeing a deal that provides value for money for consumers and taxpayers are ongoing. The Secretary of State has regular discussions with Hitachi, including during his visit to Japan in November. Friend the Secretary of State’s statement to Parliament on 4th June 2018, the Government has decided to enter into negotiations with Hitachi over the Wylfa Newydd new nuclear project.</p><p> </p><p>Safety and security are of paramount importance and the UK has a robust and effective regulatory regime. No final decisions have been taken to proceed with the project.</p><p> </p><p>The successful conclusion of these negotiations will be subject to full Government, regulatory and other approvals—including, but not limited to, value for money, due diligence and state aid requirements. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 20/06/2018 answer text <p>Nuclear power is proven technology with modern reactors capable of producing safe and secure low carbon electricity over many decades. Reactors deployed in the UK must meet the robust independent regulatory requirements which include early assessment of the safety, security and environmental impacts of reactor designs through the Generic Design Assessment (GDA), prior to any application for a site-specific statutory Nuclear Site Licence.
