answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 25/10/2023 answer text <p>We remain committed to improving services for women in or at risk of contact with the criminal justice system, recognising that they are amongst the most vulnerable in society.</p><p>In 2022 we launched three grant competitions covering the women’s community sector and have awarded total funding of £15 million up to March 2025. The funding will meet the core costs of women’s community sector organisations, allow the provision of new and additional services and interventions for women, as well as encouraging more joined up local partnership working to address women’s needs. 40 organisations across England and Wales are receiving funding. These holistic services work to support women to address the often complex needs that underlie their offending behaviour.</p><p>Women’s centres are spread across England and Wales and receive funding from different sources. Following the publication of the Female Offender Strategy, the Government invested £5.1 million over two years in women’s community sector organisations, including women’s centres. Thirty different organisations across England and Wales received funding, which included the creation of six new women’s centres. We have recently concluded our first phase of consultation with stakeholders, partners and providers. This has included close working with colleagues across Welsh government on any Wales-specific implications and requirements, as well as engagement with providers of women’s services in Wales. The Welsh Government also has representation on our Advisory Board for Female Offenders, which scrutinises the work of the Female Offender programme and the implementation of the Female Offender Strategy.</p><p>Whilst no decisions regarding the locations of the Residential Women’s Centre pilot have been made, we appreciate the need to ensure adequate provision of women’s support services in Wales. I have discussed this issue with Jane Hutt AM, Deputy Minister and Chief Whip, and look forward to continuing discussions with our Welsh partners on how best to achieve this.</p><p>HMPPS in Wales have also been working with colleagues in Welsh Government to develop a draft blueprint for justice services for women that reflects the landscape in Wales. The MoJ has provided funding to both, but does not oversee their work and bears no responsibility for maintaining records of them. Maps have been produced in the past showing snapshots of their number and location at that point in time. The women’s centres map was published in guidance for the police on working with vulnerable women, alongside the female offender strategy in June 2018; the rape support centres map has been shared with various stakeholders, but has not been published and there are no plans at present to publish it.</p><p>Our female offender’s strategy sets out a programme of work to improve outcomes for female offenders, based on our vision of seeing fewer women entering the justice system and serving short custodial sentences, and better conditions for those women in custody.
