We intend to invest over £66 million between 2014 and 2024 on work to directly tackle the illegal wildlife trade in animals and plants, including to reduce demand, strengthen enforcement, ensure effective legal frameworks and develop sustainable alternative livelihoods.</p><p> </p><p>We are working across Government to define the objectives for the UK’s G7 Presidency in 2021. We are aware of concerns raised in relation to the illegal trade in tigers and tiger farms and remain fully committed to working with our international partners, including through CITES, to ensure strong protection is in place and to bring an end to the illegal trade in wildlife.</p><p> </p><p>A consultation on controls on the import and export of hunting trophies to and from the UK was undertaken between 2 November 2019 and 25 February 2020. We are, however, continuing to work on this important area and will publish the summary of responses as soon as it is practical to do so.</p><p> </p><p>The international trade in wildlife is a complex matter, touching on environmental, social, and economic aspects. There are strong rules in place, both in the UK and internationally, to ensure any such trade is sustainable. We will remain at the forefront of ensuring these are sufficient, including through our active participation in the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) where we have pushed for strong restrictions on trade in endangered species where such trade is shown to contribute to a species’ decline. We are investing over £36 million between 2014 and 2021 to support practical action in developing countries, including our counter-poaching Task Force in Africa, 75 projects so far funded from our Illegal Wildlife Trade Challenge Fund, and through the International Consortium on Combatting Wildlife Crime. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 28/10/2019 answer text <p>The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) works with a wide-range of partners to raise awareness and promote action to tackle the Illegal Wildlife Trade (IWT). During visits to Asia in September and October, I discussed IWT with ministers in Mongolia and Cambodia, and in Laos I raised awareness with students about the catastrophic impacts the trade has on wildlife populations.</p><p>We have also worked with international partners to help secure a strong IWT Resolution at this year's United Nations General Assembly. We are increasing our support for Africa-led Green Corridors initiatives to further support wildlife conservation, community development and safe movement of animals across borders.
