We are seeking to replicate the effects of our international treaties, as far as possible and where relevant, and we are engaging closely with third parties to deliver continuity as we leave the EU.</p><p>In relation to those international agreements listed under the EU Treaties Office database that have been superseded, are redundant, or no longer relevant to the UK, we have a responsibility not to release information that could hinder our discussions with partner countries. This will enable continuity across our existing trade agreements through this period, and many of our trading partners have issued public statements in support of this approach.</p><p>In parallel to this, we continue to work towards bilateral agreements that will ensure continuity beyond the Implementation Period. The EU will notify third parties of this approach.</p><p><strong><br></strong>Discussions we have had with our international partners suggest a willingness to find a pragmatic means of ensuring continuity of international agreements in a way that minimises the impact of the UK’s departure on them. As a result, the Department for International Trade (DIT) has a strong and capable trade policy team which has grown significantly since its establishment in July 2016 and is continuing to grow.</p><p> </p><p>DIT has almost 3,600 staff, including our ‘Trade Policy Group’ of over 400 people.</p><p> </p><p>Over the summer, we also recruited internationally recognised expert Crawford Falconer as DIT’s Chief Trade Negotiation Adviser and Second Permanent Secretary.
