Most recently, UK Government officials discussed the importance of all parties working together towards a peaceful solution to the Syria conflict with representatives from the Syrian Democratic Forces on 19 April. Ultimately, tackling the challenges in northeast Syria and across the whole country, without a political solution will be extremely difficult.
more like this

answer text
The UN Commission of Inquiry, mandated by the UK-led Human Rights Council Resolution, has detailed that torture and ill-treatment continues in detention centres across Syria. We strongly condemn these violations. We have contributed over £14 million to gather evidence and assist victims of human rights violations since 2012. We have also supported Syrian doctors to produce over 360 forensic medical reports, which can act as court-standard evidence of sexual violence and torture. We use our position at the UN Security Council to draw international attention to violations, including within prisons, most recently at the UNSC session on Syria in October.
more like this

We regularly engage with actors on the ground and urge all parties to continue adherence to ceasefire agreements and international law. We also remain committed to the Global Coalition Against Daesh and at the most recent ministerial meeting in Rome on 28 June 2021, the UK announced £2.6 million of new funding to help prevent violent extremism in the north east, in support of the Coalition's Stabilisation Pledge. Further, we continue to support the delivery of aid through all modalities, and to date, we have committed over £3.7 billion in response to the Syria Crisis, our largest ever humanitarian response.
more like this

We firmly believe that United Nations Security Council Resolution 2254 offers a clear path out of the conflict which protects the rights of all Syrians, in which civil society, women and minorities must play a role. We remain committed to highlighting the appalling violations of international humanitarian law in Syria and to pursuing accountability for the most serious crimes.
more like this

answer text
Ten years of conflict has exacted a heavy toll on Syria and continues to have a destabilising impact on the region. Humanitarian access must be maintained through the renewal of UNSCR 2533, which provides vital cross-border aid access from Turkey into Syria, later this year.

We welcome that the ceasefires in the North East and North West are broadly holding, but are concerned by reports of Russian and regime airstrikes in the North West. Where the ceasefires are under pressure, we urge all parties to increase their efforts to adhere to them. There also remains a continued threat from Daesh and we will work the Global Coalition to counter further violent extremism.

We believe UNSCR 2254 offers a clear path out of the conflict. We must hold the regime accountable for its crimes, and we remain committed to alleviating the terrible cost of this war on Syrians.
more like this
