The Sudan Central Doctors Committee has confirmed that 119 protestors have been killed since the military coup on 25 October 2021, with many more injured. We have called for those responsible for abuses to be held accountable. On 24 October 2022 the UK, with partners, released a statement urging the security forces to refrain from using violence against protestors ahead of the one year anniversary of the coup. We continue to call on the Sudanese authorities to fulfill their obligation to protect the freedom of expression and peaceful assembly across Sudan. The UK's Special Representative for Sudan and South Sudan delivered this message directly to the Sudanese authorities most recently on 27 September 2022 in Khartoum. Over 80 protesters have been killed since the coup on 25 October 2021 and at least some of these deaths are attributable to the use of live ammunition, although we cannot confirm exact dates and numbers. The Sudanese military has committed to investigate the killing and abuse of protesters since the coup and we urge them to deliver this swiftly and in a transparent manner. However, accountability for crimes committed before and after the coup has yet to be delivered and we will continue to push for progress.</p><p>Our advocacy of a return to Sudan's democratic transition has included calls for ordinary Sudanese to be able to protest without fear of violence, and for accountability for all human rights violations. This includes through statements with the Troika (US/Norway/UK) as well as by the Foreign Secretary and I. We also helped to secure a resolution at the UN Human Rights Council in November to maintain scrutiny on the situation. We continue to show our support for a return to the democratic transition and maintain pressure on the Sudanese military to end violence against protesters. On 4 January, the Troika (UK, Norway, US) and EU issued a statement urging all sides to engage in dialogue to end the crisis and we welcome that the UN are now facilitating talks. With our Sudan Quad (UK, Saudi Arabia, UAE, US) partners we released a statement on 8 January urging all political actors to seize this opportunity. Since the 25 October coup, British Embassy staff in Khartoum, the UK Special Representative to Sudan and South Sudan and other FCDO officials have also engaged with all parties to encourage dialogue and demonstrate support for the democratic transition.</p><p>Although details cannot be verified at least 70 protesters have been killed since the coup and killings continue. An integral part of our advocacy for a return to Sudan's democratic transition has been our calls for ordinary Sudanese to be able to protest without fear of violence, and for accountability for all human rights violations. This includes statements with the Troika and Quad, as well as by the Foreign Secretary and me. We also helped to secure a resolution at the UN Human Rights Council in November to maintain scrutiny on the situation. With partners we continue to consider all options to maintain pressure on the Sudanese military to protect human rights, recommit to the democratic transition and deliver people's demands for freedom, peace and justice. This includes the possibility of measures to deliver accountability such as sanctions. In his statement of 3 June, the Foreign Secretary condemned the attack on protestors by Sudanese security forces and said that the Transitional Military Council (TMC) bore full responsibility for these events. The UK has been clear, at both ministerial and official levels, that there must be justice and accountability for atrocities committed both by the former regime and more recently. On 23 June, the UK Envoy to Sudan and South Sudan delivered this message directly to the Sudanese authorities. The UK has also made public statements in multilateral fora such as the EU Foreign Affairs Council (17 June) and the UN Human Rights Council (9 July). On 6 June, I summoned the Sudanese Ambassador to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office to express our grave concerns at the use of all forms of violence, including sexual violence against civilians by the Sudanese authorities. This was reiterated in a recent statement issued by the EU Foreign Affairs Council (FAC) on 17 June, which called for the immediate cessation of all violence against the Sudanese people, including extrajudicial, arbitrary and summary killings, beatings and sexual and gender-based violence, arrests and disappearances.</p><p>We have been consistent in public and in private that there must be accountability for the crimes committed by members of the former regime. The UK strongly supports the mission of the International Criminal Court; due legal process must be followed. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 25/06/2019 answer text <p>Our Embassy in Khartoum regularly calls on members of the Transitional Military Council (TMC) both in public and directly to take the steps needed to end the violence and improve the situation in Sudan, including the release of all political detainees.</p><p>Our Ambassador and other British Embassy Officials in Khartoum regularly meet with all elements of the Forces for Freedom and Change (FFC), encouraging them to be inclusive in their approach and seek a realistic compromise. Talks between the TMC and FFC have resumed via mediators.</p><p>The UK has called for the human rights of all Sudanese people to be respected, and the resumption of the political process leading to an agreed peaceful transfer of power to a civilian-led government, as demanded by the Sudanese people. The UK strongly supports the mission of the International Criminal Court; due legal process must be followed. The UK, through the UN Security Council issued a statement on 11 June that called for the immediate cessation of violence against civilians and emphasised the importance of human rights, protection of civilians, accountability and justice. They also noted the announcement by the Transitional Military Council to investigate the incidents.</p><p>The EU Foreign Affairs Council (FAC) issued a statement on 17 June, which called for all human rights violations and abuses committed to be investigated in an independent and transparent manner, and perpetrators held accountable for their acts. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 01/07/2019 answer text <p>The purpose of the Khartoum Process is to facilitate an EU-Africa dialogue on managing migration, combatting organised immigration crime and addressing the devastating effects of trafficking in the Horn and North Africa. It is called the Khartoum Process because the agreement was signed in Khartoum but it is not specific to Sudan. It is a regional mechanism for European and Horn of Africa countries to cooperate that is currently Chaired by Eritrea. The UK remains a member of the Steering Committee, which is vital to helping steer this important work.</p><p>Part of the EU-African joint efforts to tackle organised immigration crime in the Horn of Africa is delivered through the 'Regional Operations Centre Khartoum' (ROCK), to which the UK has contributed funding for a specialist expert in the past. However, due to recent events in Sudan, EU funded work on the ROCK is suspended.
