This includes an additional £2 billion of funding in England, as announced at the Spring Budget 2017. One of the three purposes of this funding was to reduce pressures on the NHS, including supporting more people to be discharged from hospital when they are ready and we know local authorities are putting resources into this. However, performance is not just about money, and considerable variation remains across the country. The remainder will be allocated according to relative need in recognition of the additional challenges which social care places on all councils.</p><p>More widely we remain committed to the Fair Funding Review as an important way to address concerns about the fairness of current funding distributions to local authorities. There have been widespread calls for a thorough, evidence-based review and this we plan to deliver.
