answer text <p>HMRC have no plans to publish their correspondence with tax payers and agents.</p><p> </p><p>HM Revenue and Customs are bound by a strict duty of confidentiality with respect to all of the information they hold in connection with their functions. HMRC officials may share information only in the limited circumstances set out in legislation, which include disclosures for the purposes of HMRC’s functions, through specific ‘legislative gateways’ or with a person’s consent.</p> more like this

answer text <p>This data is not collated centrally, and an accurate answer could not be provided except at disproportionate cost.</p><p> </p><p>The vast majority of HMRC cases are waiting to be heard before the First Tier Tribunal. At 31 March 2018, there were over 25,000 appeals on hand in the FTT. Over 16,000 of those appeals are ‘stood over’. This is where HMRC and the taxpayer have agreed to put the appeal on hold waiting for a decision in a related case. Stood over cases are not actively progressed by the tribunal and can remain on hand for many years while the lead case is decided.</p><p> </p><p>There are approximately 9,000 lead cases actively making their way through the First Tier Tribunal where HMRC are either actively working the cases, progressing them within tribunal directions, or are waiting either to be heard by the tribunal or awaiting a tribunal decisions to be issued.</p><p> </p><p> </p> more like this

HMRC currently expects that the move to regional centres will result in savings of around £300 million up to 2025. The Locations Programme will also deliver annual cash savings of £74 million in 2025-26, compared with 2015-16 costs, rising to around £90 million by 2028, while improving customer service and modernising how HMRC works.</p> more like this

answer text <p>HMRC will investigate any allegations of wrongdoing brought to its attention. In the Autumn Budget 2017, the government confirmed 18 further measures and additional investment in HMRC to tackle avoidance, evasion, and non-compliance.</p><p> </p><p>HMRC has generated over £160 billion of additional yield since 2010 from tackling avoidance, evasion and non-compliance. There are currently 26,000 people working in the Customer Compliance Group tackling all forms of non-compliance – ranging from individuals operating in the hidden economy, through to detailed investigation of offshore structures and scrutinising the tax affairs of the largest multi-national companies.</p><p> </p><p>The Joint Financial Analysis Centre (JFAC) established in the wake of the Panama Papers brings together data and intelligence from across Government and has developed into a national capability underpinning the Government’s ambitions to fight complex tax and economic crime, at home and overseas.</p> more like this
