answer text <p>From April 2023, my team of advisors and I travelled extensively across the country to visit bridging hotels to meet Afghan families and officials from across Central and Local Government who supported this cohort, ahead of their move into long-term settled accommodation. answer text <p>Of the ARAP applications submitted on or before 20 October 2021, 349 are pending a decision. The MOD has prioritised finding ARAP applications from those we know to be eligible having worked for, or alongside the UK forces in support of our mission in Afghanistan.</p><p> </p><p>Of those cases that pre-date Op PITTING, in the past two weeks, we have reduced these from 131 cases to just 80 at the time of writing. These 80 cases are now particularly complex and fall broadly into three categories: cases that are likely ineligible, cases delayed as a consequence of misconduct, and cases whereby applicants are already safely in a third country.</p><p> </p><p>Overall, we have received more than 95,000 unique applications to the scheme, and have approximately 2,000 pending a decision – a figure which includes new applications we are still receiving. We are diligently combing through our records, searching for every eligible applicant and will leave no stone unturned.</p> more like this

answer text <p>Continuing to support the resettlement of eligible Afghans under the Afghan Citizens Resettlement Scheme (ACRS) &amp; Afghan Relocations and Assistance Policy (ARAP) remains a priority for the Government. To date, we have brought around 24,600 people affected by events in Afghanistan to safety, which includes those evacuated under Op PITTING.</p><p> </p><p>We are aware of recent Government of Pakistan announcements regarding Afghans illegally present in Pakistan. FCDO and the British High Commission are monitoring the situation closely. They are in frequent contact with the Pakistani authorities to try and ensure that no ARAP or ACRS eligible individuals are negatively affected while they await relocation to the UK, and are seeking assurances to this effect.</p> more like this

answer text <p>The majority of Afghan families have been moved out of bridging accommodation into longer-term accommodation. The scheme prioritises those who have assisted the UK efforts in Afghanistan and stood up for values such as democracy, women’s rights, freedom of speech, and rule of law.</p><p>We take seriously our commitment to resettling Afghans yet to arrive in the UK, including those eligible for our schemes still in Afghanistan. But our efforts to move people out of hotels has shown how vital it is that they are moved into long-term settled accommodation, so, they can put down roots in the community.</p><p>Once in the UK eligible Afghans have the right to live, work and study, and can apply for benefits and other local authority support.</p>
