More broadly, a substantial proportion of the Saudi population hold conservative views and support the implementation of Shariah law. We cannot undertake to consider granting asylum to individuals or groups of people abroad and it is not our practice to grant visas for the purpose of seeking asylum. The Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, my right hon. Friend the Member for Runnymede and Weybridge (Mr Hammond), discussed this case in February and in March with the Saudi Minister of the Interior, His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Naif, now the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia.
