answer text
The whole of Government is preparing for the UK to make an orderly and successful exit from the European Union. Cross-government governance arrangements are coordinating efforts across Whitehall. The Prime Minister established and chairs a Cabinet Committee on European Union Exit and Trade to oversee the UK’s exit at Cabinet level. The Committee meets regularly. Since the triggering of Article 50, two new subcommittees, chaired by the Prime Minister, have been established. One will oversee the negotiations on the UK’s withdrawal from and new relationship with the EU, and the second will focus on issues relating to the UK’s future trading arrangements with non-European countries. At official level, the cross-government EU Exit Analysis Board provides oversight and direction to analytical work related to EU exit, including sectoral and regional analysis, being undertaken across Whitehall. The Department for Exiting the European Union, working with officials across government, continues to undertake a wide range of analysis to support our negotiations, covering the entirety of the UK economy.

answer text
The total cost of the Police and Crime Commissioner elections held in May 2016 comprises two main elements: the expenditure incurred by Returning Officers in running the polls; and the cost of producing and delivering on-demand candidate information booklets. Returning Officers have six months from the day of the elections to submit their expenses claims and so the final cost will not be known until all of these have been received, scrutinised and settled. The majority of Returning Officers’ expenditure was incurred in April and May 2016.
more like this

answer text
The pre-election restrictions for Police and Crime Commissioners are governed by Section 2 of the Local Government Act 1986, as amended in 1988. It is permissible for a Police and Crime Commissioner to campaign individually on a political basis, but without recourse to the resources of the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner (OPCC). The Code of Recommended Practice on Local Authority Publicity would also apply in these circumstances and covers the full range of Local Authorities (including Police and Crime Commissioners and the Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime). The purdah period for Police and Crime Commissioners and their offices, like other Local Authorities, begins with the publication of the notice of election by the Police Area Returning Officer (PARO), which must happen no later than the 25th day before the day of the election, but can be issued at any point before then. PAROs are responsible for deciding on the date on which they will issue the notice of election – they may issue individually, or simultaneously.
