This includes Christian communities throughout the country, including in Karachi.</p><p>We regularly raise our human rights concerns with the Government of Pakistan at a senior level, including when the Foreign Secretary saw Pakistan’s Foreign Minister, Shah Mahmood Qureshi, in December 2018. Lord Ahmad of Wimbledon, the Prime Minister’s Special Envoy for Freedom of Religion or Belief, raised the treatment of minority communities with Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Human Rights, Dr Shireen Mazari, on 19 February during his visit to Pakistan. We remain deeply concerned by the misuse of the blasphemy laws and the treatment of minority religious communities, including Christians, in Pakistan.</p><p>We regularly raise our human rights concerns with the Government of Pakistan at a senior level. Most recently my colleague Lord Ahmad of Wimbledon, the Prime Minister's Special Envoy for Freedom of Religion or Belief, discussed the treatment of minority communities with Pakistan's Federal Minister for Human Rights, Dr Shireen Mazari, during his visit to Pakistan on 18 and 19 February. At the UN Universal Periodic Review of Pakistan in November 2017, the UK pressed Pakistan to strengthen the protection of minorities and to explain the steps being taken to tackle the abuse of the blasphemy laws.</p><p>To ensure the United Kingdom is supporting Christians in the best possible way, the Foreign Secretary has commissioned an independent, global review of the support provided to Christians overseas. The Review will consider what additional practical steps the Foreign and Commonwealth Office can take to support persecuted Christians. It will be led by the Bishop of Truro, Rt Revd. He recently asked the Bishop of Truro to conduct an independent review of the persecution of Christians around the world to help inform this important area of our work and ensure it is targeted and effective. The Government works with a large number of NGOs, including Open Doors, to help promote and protect freedom of religion or belief. The UK supports the rights of all groups to follow their own religious faith and to live safe and secure lives. It is not possible to disaggregate our spending data by religion as we do not collect information on the religion of all our beneficiaries in country. We do however have a data disaggregation action plan which focuses on 4 key areas, disability, age, sex and geography. We encourage all states to honour in full their international human rights obligations.</p><p>The British Government regularly raises its concerns about the freedom of religion or belief and the treatment of minority religious communities with our international partners, including the Government of Pakistan.</p><p>We have raised our concerns with the Government of Thailand over the detention of foreign nationals, including nationals of Pakistan. The Minister of State for the Commonwealth and UN, Lord Ahmad of Wimbledon, discussed our concerns in a telephone call with the Thai Ambassador on 2 November. We believe that the recent actions of the Thai authorities are not aimed at any specific group or groups but apply to anyone whom the Thai authorities deem an illegal visa over-stayer. The Government strongly condemns the persecution of all minorities, including the targeting of innocent people based on their beliefs.</p><p> </p><p>We regularly raise our concerns about the protection of minority communities with the Government of Pakistan at a senior level. The ​Foreign Secretary discussed the importance we attach to safeguarding the rights of all Pakistan's citizens during his visit to Pakistan in November 2016. The former Minister for Asia and the Pacific, Mr Sharma, raised the protection of minorities with Kamran Michael, former Minister for Human Rights, and Barrister Zafarullah Khan, former Prime Minister’s Special Assistant for Human Rights, during a visit to Pakistan in January 2017.</p><p> </p><p>Our High Commission in Islamabad raised our concerns about the treatment of religious minorities with the Ministry of Human Rights last month. My thoughts are with the Government and people of Pakistan, including the families and friends of the victims, and those recovering from injuries. The explosion was a sad reminder of the terrorist threat confronting individuals regardless of age, gender, religious belief or ethnicity.</p><p>The UK continues to stand with Pakistan in tackling the shared threat from terrorism and extremism. We are partnering Pakistan to increase its capacity to confront the terrorist threat, reform the judiciary so those responsible for attacks are held to account and address the root causes of extremism and terrorism.</p><p>The Government deplores violations of the right to freedom of religion or belief. We will continue to speak up for religious minorities wherever their rights are denied. In August, the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, my right hon. Friend the Member for Runnymede and Weybridge (Mr Hammond) raised religious freedom and human rights with Interior Minister Nisar. In June, I conveyed our concern about minorities in Pakistan to the Pakistani High Commissioner to the UK.</p><p>We will continue to urge the Government of Pakistan to meet its international obligations to uphold the human rights of all its citizens.
