ICBs are responsible for developing a forward plan that sets out how the ICB intends to arrange health services within its area, including secondary fracture prevention services such as Fracture Liaison Services.</p><p>The Government recognise the value of quality assured secondary fracture prevention services, including Fracture Liaison Services. NHS England is working with commissioners to support the mobilisation and implementation of Fracture Liaison Services in each area and to establish a greater number of clinics. This includes their work through the Getting it Right First Time Programme, with a specific workstream on musculoskeletal health, and they are exploring how best to support integrated care systems in the diagnosis and treatment of osteoporosis. This includes a focus on improving provision of and equity of access to high quality, secondary fracture prevention services, such as Fracture Liaison Services, which help to identify those most at risk and offer preventative support.</p><p>To help support trends in the identification rate for patients with osteoporotic fracture and to improve early identification of osteoporosis, the Quality Improvement Partnership commissions and manages the Falls and Fragility Fracture Audit on behalf of NHS England. This includes the Hip Fracture Database, as well as an audit focusing on Fracture Liaison Services. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 10/11/2021 answer text <p>NHS Digital have provided a count of hospital admissions in England in each of the last three years where osteoporosis was the main diagnosis, split by patient age and gender.</p><p>The information is not collected in the format requested. However, the table shows a count of finished admission episodes (FAEs) with a primary diagnosis of osteoporosis, broken down by age and gender for the years 2018/19 - 2020/21.</p><p>Please note that this is not a count of people as the same person can be admitted to hospital on more than one occasion. Initial diagnosis of the condition may have taken place in a previous financial year to the one in which the hospital admissions shown here have taken place. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 30/10/2014 answer text <p>The provision of fracture liaison services (FLS) and falls services is a matter for local clinical commissioning groups (CCGs) and data on numbers is not collected centrally. NHS England advises that it is aware that provision of good FLS is not uniform across the country and is working with CCGs to support them to develop appropriate local services. It also advises that the FLS model recommended by the International Osteoporosis Foundation and the National Osteoporosis society is recognised as best practice and is being promoted. In addition to this, the guidance from the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) ‘Falls: assessment and prevention of falls in older people’ sets out best practice for clinicians on the management of patients aged 65 and over who are susceptible to falls.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>Regarding the cost to the National Health Service of treating fractures attributable to osteoporosis, whilst programme budgeting data provides figures for annual NHS spend on musculoskeletal services in England, the cost of treating individual musculoskeletal conditions, such as osteoporosis or specific services such as FLS, is not available as part of this.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>Information concerning the number of people affected by osteoporosis in each of the last five years is not collected.
