answer text <p>The Government is taking a range of steps to promote nurisng degrees and secure the healthcare workforce; by:</p><p> </p><p>- enabling universities to offer up to 10,000 extra training places on pre-registration healthcare programmes;</p><p>- offering students around 25% more upfront financial support while studying - for example, a single student on a three-year programme would receive approximately £2,000 more each year on a student loan compared to an National Health Service bursary;</p><p>- improving access to pre-registration undergraduate study for those from disadvantaged backgrounds; and</p><p>- giving students with an existing qualification the chance to get funding for a second degree.</p><p> </p><p>In November 2016, the government announced the New Nursing Degree apprenticeship, once established this will create up to 1,000 apprentice degree nurses in the NHS each year.</p><p> </p><p>It is expected to open up more opportunities to train as a nurse for those already working in the NHS or those for whom full-time university study is not a realistic option.</p>

answer text <p>To introduce health education funding reforms effective from 1 August 2017 for new pre-registration nursing, midwifery and allied health students, the Department sought, and received, the required cross-government Home Affairs Cabinet Committee approval to its public consultation and draft equality and economic impact assessments published on 8 April 2016. It received subsequent approval for its government response and refreshed impact assessments, published 21 July 2016.</p><p> </p><p>From 1 August 2017, student nurse training will be funded through student loans enabling universities to increase training places significantly – offering up to 10,000 more nursing, midwifery and allied health training places over this parliament, so more applicants will have the chance to become a health professional.</p> more like this

answer text <p>The Government’s Economic Impact Assessment found that nursing is consistently one of the most popular courses on University Central Administration Service (fifth), with 57,000 applicants for around 20,000 nursing places in 2015.</p><p> </p><p>The Economic Impact Assessment also set out that a maximum £9,000 tuition fee for other subjects at higher education institutions was introduced in 2012. answer text <p>The Government has not reassessed plans to replace bursaries with loans to take into account the decision to withdraw from the European Union (EU).</p><p>The Department of Health is working with the Department for Exiting the European Union to ensure that the needs of health and social care providers and those in need of health and social care services are taken into account as we exit from the EU.</p><p>In October 2016, the Department for Education confirmed that EU students will remain eligible to apply for the standard student loan package and this will not change during their course if the Government triggers Brexit during the next few years.</p> more like this
