We are focused on ensuring the road system is safe and efficient for all users, for example through the measures in <em>The Plan for Drivers</em> from which riders will also benefit. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 22/10/2021 answer text <p>Grants are available from the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles towards the purchase cost of a number of zero-emission motorcycles and mopeds, with the grant paying for 20% of the purchase price, up to a maximum of £1,500. Details are available via <a href="http://www.gov.uk/plug-in-car-van-grants/overview" target="_blank">www.gov.uk/plug-in-car-van-grants/overview</a> .</p><p>The Department is running trials of rental e-scooters to assess their safety and wider impacts. This is part of the Government’s Future of Transport regulatory review which will decide whether e-scooters and similar vehicles should be allowed on the road and, if so, what rules should apply to them.</p><p>The Government has also taken a number of steps to support the use of e-cargo bikes and other e-bikes. It has provided over £2 million to support the roll-out of e-cargo bikes, with grants covering up to 40% of the total cost of an ecargo bike, up to a maximum of £2,500 for two-wheel models and £4,500 for three-wheel models. Further details of a new national e-cycle support programme will be announced shortly. Transport has a key role to play in reducing emissions to meet both climate change and air quality goals. The Clean Air Strategy, published this year, is the most ambitious air quality strategy in a generation, aiming to halve the harm to human health from air pollution in the UK by 2030.</p><p><strong> </strong></p><p>Motorcycles can make a significant contribution to addressing the nation’s transport and traffic problems. They offer real benefits in terms of reduced congestion and an affordable alternative to the car, providing independence and mobility and widening employment opportunities. Motorcyclists represent one of the most vulnerable road user groups and the Department has just published a refreshed Road Safety Statement and a two-year action plan to address the following four key priority groups: motorcyclists; rural road users; young road users; and older road users.</p><p><em> </em></p><p>Electric scooters are illegal to use on public roads in the UK.
