answer text <p>In May I convened a meeting with industry leaders and the police to start working through what more can be done collectively to tackle vehicle crime.</p><p>We are working closely with the National Police Chiefs’ Council Lead for Vehicle Crime, through a National Vehicle Crime Working Group, to take forward a programme of work to tackle vehicle crime, overseen by the Government’s Crime and Justice Taskforce. This governance structure has superseded the vehicle theft taskforce.</p> more like this

answer text <p>In the UK and many other countries the minimum insurance requirement for using a motor vehicle is third party liability cover. This ensures injured parties are financially protected in the event of a collision whilst helping keep the cost of insurance affordable for all motorists. Many motorists however choose to take out more comprehensive cover, which depending on the terms of the policy, may include cover for the cost of recovering their vehicle if it is stolen. If such comprehensive cover were to become mandatory this would likely increase the cost of insurance for motorists. For this reason the Government has no plans to make such cover mandatory.</p> more like this
