Through the National Minimum Wage (NMW) and the National Living Wage (NLW), the Government protects the lowest paid within our society. The Government has accepted all of the recommendations of the Low Pay Commission.</p><p>From April, the NLW will increase for workers aged 21 years and over to £11.44 an hour. For workers aged 18-20, the NMW rate will increase to £8.60 an hour. In 2021/22, HMRC concluded over 2,800 minimum wage investigations and returned more than £16.3m in arrears to over 120,000 workers. The employers were also ordered to pay nearly £7 million in penalties.</p><p> </p><p>Unpaid working time, which can include unpaid trial shifts, was a factor in 39% of these cases. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 11/05/2023 answer text <p>HMRC enforces the National Minimum Wage (NMW) and National Living Wage (NLW) in line with the law and policy set out by the Department for Business and Trade (DBT).</p><p> </p><p>The Government is determined that everyone who is entitled to the NMW receives it.</p><p> </p><p>HMRC’s NMW compliance work is funded by DBT.
