answer text <p>No River Class Minesweepers remain in service with the Royal Navy (RN) or the Royal Naval Reserve (RNR).</p><p>Twelve River Class Minesweepers were built in the 1980s. Eleven were assigned to the RNR units around the UK, and a twelfth ship was operated by the RN's Fishery Protection Squadron. All 12 ships were decommissioned and sold during the 1990s.</p><p>Today, the RN operates a fleet of 13 Mine Counter Measure Vessels (six Hunt Class and seven Sandown Class).</p> more like this

answer text <p>The Ministry of Defence is currently undertaking a lengthy assessment phase for a replacement Mine Countermeasures and Hydrographic capability through multi-national co-operation; principally with France as part of the Lancaster House agreement. A range of options is being considered to modernise mine countermeasures systems and remove the man from the minefield through use of the latest unmanned technological solutions and remote operating systems. Decisions on the type and number of platforms which will operate these systems will follow later in programme</p> more like this

answer text <p>The current contract is for a single prototype system and valued at £13 Million. If successful, this system will be converted for operational use and further systems may be procured with associated Hunt Class modifications.</p><p>The dates for Initial and Full Operating Capability have not yet been determined and are subject to a Main Gate investment decision, which is expected in 2019. The permanent base for this equipment will be Her Majesty's Naval Base Portsmouth, which is where the Hunt Class Mine Countermeasures Vessels are currently based.</p> more like this
