We received over 1,600 responses and a <a href="https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/1100605/animal-welfare-labelling-summary-of-responses.pdf" target="_blank">summary</a> of these responses is available on GOV.UK. This is a fundamental issue of religious freedom and belief, which the Government upholds. As the global economy has rebounded from the pandemic, we have seen pressures placed on supply chains across sectors and across countries. The UK has a highly resilient food supply chain which has coped well in responding to unprecedented challenges and we have been taking decisive action to ease these pressures where immediate interventions have been required, including making available temporary visas in some sectors such as HGV drivers and the poultry sector. We have well-established ways of working with the food industry to address potential food supply chain disruptions and that hasn’t changed. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 16/03/2020 answer text <p>The Government accepts the right of Muslims and Jews to eat meat killed in accordance with their religious beliefs.</p><p> </p><p>Since 1933 there have been provisions in UK law that permit the slaughter of animals without prior stunning in order to meet Jewish and Islamic religious requirements.</p><p> </p><p>The Government has adopted stricter national regulations over the years which ensure extensive protections for animals slaughtered without stunning in accordance with religious rites. These are set down in the Welfare of Animals at Time of Killing (England) Regulations 2015. The Government is aware that there is public interest about meat from animals slaughtered in accordance with religious beliefs being sold to consumers who do not require their meat to be prepared in this way.
