question text To ask Her Majesty's Government what estimate they have made of the number of Palestinian children detained in prison in Israel; whether, and to what extent, they consider such detentions to violate Article 147 of the Geneva Convention; and whether they intend to call for penal sanctions under that Convention against persons who commit unlawful deportation, transfers or confinement. more like this

It remains our assessment that the transfer of Palestinian child and adult detainees to prisons inside Israel is in violation of the Fourth Geneva Convention. We continue to make representations on this important issue to the Israeli authorities as well as to ensure proper access for parents and legal advisers to Palestinian children under arrest by the Israeli authorities.
more like this

answer text
The UK Government deplores any act of violence or incitement to violence. The UK government does not consider the Palestinian Authority’s (PA) prisoner payments system to be equivalent to conventional welfare payments. The UK government acknowledges that people in need are entitled to access support that is based on objective social need. For this reason we continue to press the PA to make the prisoner payments system more needs based, transparent and affordable. UK Ministers have raised this personally with the Palestinian Foreign Minister, and officials raised this with the PA at senior levels most recently on 28 March 2019. No UK aid is used for payments to Palestinian prisoners or their families.
more like this

Initial detention periods have also been shortened. However we continue to have strong concerns about continued reports of ill-treatment of Palestinian minors in Israeli military detention and remain committed to working with Israel to secure improvements to its practices.
more like this

answer text
We firmly believe a just and lasting resolution that ends the occupation and delivers peace for both Israelis and Palestinians is long overdue. We believe that negotiations will only succeed when they are conducted between Israelis and Palestinians, supported by the international community. We have encouraged the US Administration to bring forward detailed proposals for a viable peace agreement that addresses the legitimate concerns of both parties. We continue to believe the best way to achieve this is through substantive peace talks between the parties leading to a two-state solution with Jerusalem as a shared capital.
more like this
