answer text <p>The Lord Chancellor announced to the house on 27 June 2023, that the Government has carefully considered the legislative programme in the round and has decided not to take forward the Bill of Rights Bill.</p><p> </p><p>We have taken and are taking action to address specific issues with the HRA and the ECHR, including through the Illegal Migration Bill, Victims and Prisoners Bill, and Overseas Operations Act 2021 – the last of which addressed vexatious claims against veterans and the armed forces.</p><p> </p><p>The Government remains committed to a human rights framework that is up to date, fit for purpose, and works for the British people.</p> more like this

This follows the consideration of over 12,800 response to the Government’s consultation, which closed on 19 April 2022. The Bill delivers on the Government’s manifesto commitment to ‘[…] update the Human Rights Act and administrative law to ensure there is a proper balance between the rights of individuals, our vital national security and effective government.’. As a result of this, the Secretary of State has extended the deadline for responses by six weeks for those with needs for an easy-read or audio version of the consultation document. The new deadline for these responses is 19 April.</p><p> </p><p>Ministry of Justice officials will be conducting focused engagement sessions with disability organisations to explore the proposals outlined in the consultation further. The Department will also complete a full Equalities Impact Assessment of any proposals taken forward.</p> more like this

answer text <p>On 14 December 2021 the Government published a consultation on proposals to update the Human Rights Act 1998. This was published alongside the Independent Human Rights Act Review (IHRAR) report. The consultation closes on 8 March 2022. During the consultation period, meetings are taking place with key stakeholders as part of a wider engagement plan. answer text <p>The Human Rights Act has been in force for over 20 years now and it is entirely right that we should seek to update it. We need to make sure that our human rights framework continues to meet the needs of the society it serves.</p><p> </p><p>In December 2020, the Government established the Independent Human Rights Act Review (IHRAR) to examine the framework of the Human Rights Act, how it is operating in practice and whether any change is required. We published the IHRAR Panel’s report on 14 December alongside our consultation on proposals to overhaul the Act, and replace it with a Bill of Rights.</p><p> </p><p>The UK will remain a party to the European Convention on Human Rights. Our objective in overhauling our human rights legislation will be to change, reform and revise the domestic interpretation and application of the convention by the UK courts.</p> more like this
