answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 17/10/2019 answer text <p>Domestically, the Government is on course to plant 11 million trees this Parliament (2017-2022), with at least 3.6 million trees (2,318 hectares) of woodland planted since April 2017, and over 15 million trees planted since 2010. In the Autumn Budget 2018, the Government announced an additional £60 million for tree planting initiatives, comprising £10 million to fund urban tree planting through the Urban Tree Challenge Fund, and £50 million for a Woodland Carbon Guarantee scheme. This will add to other new planting in the pipeline, including the High Speed 2 Woodland Fund, the Woodland Carbon Fund, a kick start investment in the Northern Forest and support for a new Northumberland Forestry Partnership, to delivera new forest region starting with 1 million trees planted by 2024.</p><p> </p><p>The Prime Minister recently announced a doubling of UK International Climate Finance (ICF) to at least £11.6 billion over the next five years. This spend will include a focus on nature based solutions to climate change. Through ICF, the UK currently funds several programmes in developing countries that use native tree-planting as a strategy for reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and generating economic benefits for rural communities. For example, Defra’s investments aim to restore 550,000 hectares of forest, generating 90 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions savings. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 08/10/2019 answer text <p>The cornerstone of our new agricultural policy is the development of a new Environmental Land Management scheme (ELMs), which will be underpinned by the payment of public money for the provision of public goods. In determining what ELMs will pay for, we are mapping the environmental public goods for ELMs, the interventions that may contribute to their delivery and the evidence base that supports this. We recognise that woodland creation may contribute to several of the environmental public goods that ELMs will pay for, including mitigation of and adaptation to climate change, thriving plants and wildlife, and clean air. Activities that therefore may be paid for include tree planting, woodland creation and woodland management, including through natural regeneration. An evidence framework has been put in place to ensure that all land management interventions which ELMs will incentivise will be based on up to date scientific evidence.</p><p> </p><p>We set up tests and trials as a means to support the development of the ELMs. The work is being facilitated by a range of stakeholders, including farmer groups, representative bodies and non-governmental organisations and will cover a range of geographies and sectors. Tests and trials provide us with a mechanism to co-design and test the new scheme with farmers and land managers and understand how it works in a real life environment. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 11/07/2019 answer text <p>This is a devolved matter and the information provided therefore relates to England only.</p><p> </p><p>The Government provides a range of support to landowners for new woodland creation through Countryside Stewardship, the Woodland Carbon Fund and the HS2 Woodland Fund. These have been available for some time and are open to new applications from farmers and landowners who can meet the criteria for funding.</p><p><strong> </strong></p><p>In the Autumn Budget the Government announced an additional £60 million for tree planting initiatives, comprising £10 million to fund urban tree planting and £50 million for a Woodland Carbon Guarantee scheme. This is in addition to the Government’s kick start investment in the Northern Forest, and establishment of the Forestry Investment Zone (FIZ) pilot in northeast Cumbria.</p><p> </p><p>There are regulations in place to prevent unauthorised deforestation, primarily the Environmental Impact Assessment (Forestry) (England and Wales) Regulations 1999, as amended. If plans for deforestation are determined to have significant environmental impact and exceed the threshold in the regulations, landowners must gain Forestry Commission consent before any change of land use can take place. If trees are removed without consent then restoration can be ordered. Our 25 Year environment Plan has a goal of increasing tree cover in England from 10% to 12% by 2060. Recently we have funded £5.7 million to kick start the Northern Forest, announced a £10 million Woodland Carbon Guarantee fund, and launched a £10m fund for new trees in our towns and cities through the urban trees challenge fund.
