answer text <p>100% of employers believed to be in scope of the regulations reported their figures by August 2018.</p><p> </p><p>It is an employer’s legal responsibility to ensure that they report on time and that their figures are accurate. The vast majority of the over 10,500 that reported last year have completed the calculations correctly. In 2018, the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) commenced enforcement action against 100 employers suspected of publishing inaccurate gender pay gap figures.</p><p> </p><p>The EHRC enforcement found that they were a result of errors, rather than a deliberate attempt to mislead. They have worked closely with employers to identify and correct errors - all of whom have now either verified their figures or identified and corrected calculation errors.</p><p> </p><p>Employers have until 30 March, for the public sector, and 4 April, for the private and voluntary sector, to submit their data for the second year. The data for the 2018-19 reporting year will be reviewed once the deadline has passed.</p>

answer text <p>Everyone in the UK should have the opportunity to progress and fulfil their potential in employment, to benefit both the individual and the wider economy. Despite accounting for just under half of all employees in the UK, women are more likely to be in low paid work than men.</p><p>The Government has an aspiration to end low pay, and next year it will set out the Low Pay Commission’s remit from 2020 onwards.</p><p>The National Living Wage (NLW) benefits a higher proportion of women than men. In April 2019, the NLW will increase by 4.9% to £8.21. This is an increase to a full-time minimum wage worker’s annual earnings of over £690, making progress on the government’s objective for the NLW to reach 60% of median earnings by 2020.</p><p>We will be publishing a strategy in the Spring on gender equality and economic empowerment that will include consideration of how we can best support low paid women.</p><p> </p> more like this

answer text <p>The gender pay gap for women between 40 and 49 has actually fallen since 2010. Employers reported their gender pay gaps for the first time this year and we now expect them to take action to close them.</p><p> </p><p>The Government published the Fuller Working Lives strategy last year, and continues to work with businesses to ensure everyone can adapt to the changing face of the workforce.</p> more like this

answer text <p>Under new government legislation over 10,000 employers reported their gender pay gaps this year. These regulations increase transparency, driving board level discussions and pushing employers to take real action to close the gap.</p><p>We are now working with employers to help them understand their gender pay gaps, and support them to put plans in place to tackle gaps.</p><p>Mandatory gender pay gap reporting is just one of the steps government has taken to tackle the drivers of the gap including:</p><ul><li>introducing Shared Parental Leave and Pay and running a £1.5 million campaign to promote the scheme to eligible parents.</li><li>extending the right to request flexible working and establishing a taskforce working with business to make flexible working a reality for all employees.</li><li>creating a £5 million fund to support women and men who have been out of the labour market for a long period to return to work.</li><li>spending around £6 billion on childcare support by 2019-20, around £3.5 billion of which is planned to be spent on free early education entitlements.</li></ul>

answer text <p>Paying men and women unequally for the same work has been unlawful for nearly 50 years. Employees who are concerned that they may not be being paid fairly can seek authoritative and free advice from the Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service (Acas), before deciding whether to bring a claim before an Employment Tribunal. Where an employer is found to have breached equal pay law, an Employment Tribunal can order them to carry out an equal pay audit. Our requirement for all larger employers to publish their gender pay gap will help increase transparency of all the factors underlying the endemic differences in pay between men and women.<strong> </strong></p> more like this

answer text <p>We have written to all employers in scope of the gender pay gap reporting regulations that have not yet registered to report, on four separate occasions, ensuring they are aware of the requirement and urging them to report.</p><p>In recent weeks we have telephoned all organisations who have not yet registered on the gender pay gap website to ensure that they are on track to report.</p><p>We have also run an intensive social media campaign, and placed advertisements in national newspapers.</p><p>To date, more than 9,000 organisations in the public, private and voluntary sectors have registered to report on the government portal, a clear indication that they are aware of their responsibility.</p> more like this

answer text <p>In 2017, the government introduced ground-breaking regulations requiring large employers, in both the public and private sector, to publish their gender pay gaps annually. The transparency generated by these regulations will motivate employers to identify barriers to women’s progression in the workplace, and to take action to address them.</p><p>This builds on previous success in using transparency to drive change, including our support for the Hampton-Alexander Review to achieve 33% women on boards, and 33% women in Executive Committees and positions reporting directly to the Executive Committee in the FTSE 350 by 2020.</p><p>In October 2017 we also published the Race Disparity Audit to give an unprecedented insight into how people from different ethnic backgrounds are treated in society, including their access to healthcare, education, employment and in the criminal justice system.</p><p>These actions are underpinned by legislation to safeguard rights in the workplace. The Equality Act 2010 makes it unlawful to discriminate against someone because of pregnancy or maternity. The Equality and Human Rights Commission and Acas provide advice and guidance to employees who feel they have experienced discrimination. We also fund the Equality Advisory and Support Service, a free advice helpline open to anyone in England, Scotland and Wales who feels that they may have been the victim of unlawful discrimination.</p>
