answer text <p>The Government published guidance in April 2023 which sets out how employers can measure, report on, and address any unfair ethnicity pay gaps within their workforce. This was an action from our ambitious Inclusive Britain strategy, published in March 2022.</p><p>We have no plans to introduce mandatory ethnicity pay reporting. Instead, we want to encourage and support those employers who want to use ethnicity pay reporting to improve transparency and build trust among their employees.</p><p> </p> more like this

It is crucial that everyone is treated fairly in the workplace, so that they can thrive and reach their full potential and we want to ensure that everyone has access to the same employment opportunities.</p><p> </p><p>Ethnicity pay gap reporting is just one type of tool to assist employers in doing this and it may not always be the most appropriate mechanism for some types of organisations. Therefore, as set out in the “Inclusive Britain” report, which was published in March 2022, the Government will not be legislating to make ethnicity pay reporting mandatory at this stage. Instead we are committed to producing guidance to support those who wish to report voluntarily. This will be published in due course.</p> more like this

answer text <p>ONS last published data on the average (median) hourly pay differences between men and women in different ethnic groups in 2019 from the Annual Population Survey.</p><p>Pay differences between men and women vary by ethnic groups. While in most ethnic groups men earn more than women on average per hour, that is not the case in the Arab, Bangladeshi or black Caribbean ethnic groups.</p><p>Where men earn more than women, the largest pay difference is for people from the Indian ethnic group, where men earn £4.10 more per hour on average.
