<p>There were 21.5 million smart and advanced meters in homes and small businesses
across Great Britain, as of the end of June 2020. Research has found that 80% of people
with smart meters say they have a better idea of their energy costs and 88% of prepayment
customers with smart meters say that topping up has become easier.</p><p> </p><p>Further
to the publication of guidance on safe working during coronavirus (COVID-19) in May
2020, energy suppliers have been scaling up installation volumes, while implementing
additional safety measures to ensure the wellbeing of customers and staff.</p><p>
</p><p>In June 2020, the Government confirmed that from July 2021 a new four-year
policy framework will be implemented with fixed annual installation milestones for
energy suppliers that will drive roll-out momentum.</p><p> </p>
