answer text <p>We will need unabated gas in 2035 to play a small but important role when the wind does not blow or the sun does not shine. Our published Net Zero scenarios envisage a small but important role for unabated gas in 2035. Without a role for unabated gas, we would likely run an increased risk of blackouts.</p> more like this

answer text <p>The Review of Electricity Market Arrangements (REMA), first announced in April 2022, is a major review into Britain’s electricity market design that will enhance energy security and help to deliver the UK's world-leading climate targets, whilst ensuring a fair deal for consumers.</p><p> </p><p>The Government plans to publish a second consultation in early 2024, which will consider a narrower range of options for reform and set out a clear direction of travel for how Great Britain's electricity market arrangements will need to evolve in future.</p><p> </p><p>Alongside this consultation, the Government plans to publish an Options Assessment which provides details regarding the analytical frameworks and bespoke analysis that have been produced to support the policy development process.</p> more like this

answer text <p>The Government welcomes the Electricity Networks Commissioner’s report and will publish an Action Plan in response by the end of this year.</p><p> </p><p>In his speech on Net Zero on 20 September, the Prime Minister announced that the government will shortly bring forward reforms to energy infrastructure including setting out the UK’s first spatial plan.</p><p> </p><p>Government wants to ensure communities hosting transmission network infrastructure can benefit from supporting the delivery of cheaper, secure and low-carbon energy for Great Britain. answer text <p>The Contracts for Difference (CfD) scheme is the Government’s main mechanism for supporting new low-carbon electricity generation projects in Great Britain. It has awarded contracts to renewable projects totalling over 30 Giga Watts (GW) of capacity, including around 20GW of offshore wind. On 8 September the Government published Allocation Round 5 results, which awarded contracts to a record 95 projects with total generation capacity of 3.7GW. The scheme now runs annual auctions and the evidence base is reviewed every round. The Government has published the timeline for the next round, which opens in March 2024.</p> more like this
