answer text <p>As set out in the Government’s response to the Intelligence and Security Committee’s report on Russia, we have seen no evidence of successful interference in the EU Referendum.</p><p>The Government continues to work closely with the Electoral Commission, and others, to protect the integrity, security and effectiveness of UK referendums and elections. The Electoral Commission has a wide range of investigatory and civil sanctioning powers available to it and is able to refer more serious matters to the police or the National Crime Agency.</p><p> </p> more like this

answer text <p>The first duty of Government is to safeguard the nation, and we take the security and integrity of our democratic processes very seriously.</p><p>The Government’s consultation <em>Protecting the Debate: Intimidation, Influence and Information </em>sought views on a proposed new electoral offence of intimidating a candidate or campaigner, clarifying the offence of undue influence and whether the requirement for imprints should be extended to electronic material. The consultation did not seek views on protecting the UK electoral system from overseas interference specifically.</p><p>The Cabinet Office co-ordinates cross-Government work to protect our democracy and to ensure the public’s confidence in our elections.</p> more like this

answer text <p>I will not comment on operational or intelligence matters, however I can assure you that there has been no successful interference in any UK electoral process to date.</p><p>Our system of paper balloting and hand counting means UK voting mechanisms do not lend themselves to direct electronic manipulation. A series of protective measures were put in place ahead of the 2015 General Election, designed to be sufficiently enduring to mitigate future threats, including the EU referendum and future polls.</p><p>The NCSC continues to offer political parties access to the best cyber security guidance and support. The NCSC sent refreshed cyber security guidance to the range of bodies involved in the 2017 General Election.</p><p> </p> more like this
