The portfolio agreed by the Foreign Secretary will focus our investment and expertise on issues where the UK can make the most difference, and achieve maximum strategic coherence, impact, and value for money. The UK is one of the largest donors to the international COVID-19 response. UK expertise in science, research, and development has led to one of the first effective and affordable COVID-19 vaccines. We have made £1.3billion of new public commitments to counter the health, humanitarian, and socio-economic impacts of COVID-19, and to support the global effort to equitably distribute vaccines.</p><p>Scientific and technological innovation runs through every one of the seven priority themes for our ODA spend. The Foreign, Commonwealth &amp; Development Office (FCDO) research partnerships for COVID-19, including the development of vaccines, diagnostics, and therapeutics will be maintained. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 26/01/2021 answer text <p>In response to COVID-19 the Commonwealth Development Corporation (CDC) quickly pivoted all of its investment activities to help tackle the economic and healthcare impacts of the pandemic in Africa and South Asia. Since April 2020 100% of CDC's new investment commitments have been approved under its COVID-19 investment response strategy.</p><p>This investment response strategy consists of three pillars. First, to preserve the positive development impact of its current investee businesses affected by the crisis by providing additional finance and technical support. Second, to strengthen economic resilience by providing systemic liquidity to keep economies functioning and making targeted investments to increase access to healthcare and basic services. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 21/09/2020 answer text <p>COVID-19 is a compound and protracted crisis, where the impacts on health, economies, food security, stability and society will hit the world's poorest and most fragile countries hardest. As a leading donor to the global COVID-19 response and one of the biggest humanitarian donors globally, we are ensuring that our support goes to those who need it the most, including refugees and other forcibly displaced populations.</p><p>We have so far pledged up to £790 million of UK aid to counter the health and economic impacts of COVID-19, and to further the search for vaccines, therapeutics and diagnostics. In addition, we have pivoted over 200 bilateral programmes towards addressing direct and indirect impacts of COVID-19 response.</p><p>We are paying particular attention to the needs of the most vulnerable. Our funding for UNHCR is focused on supporting refugees. Our support to UNFPA and UNICEF will protect the rights of women and girls, including addressing gender-based violence and ensuring continued access to sexual and reproductive health care. This package includes underspends, delaying activity and stopping some spend. The package will see some reductions made now, with arrangements in place to tailor spending further during the remaining months as we start to gain a clearer economic picture.
