Our programme of activity at this year's High Level Political Forum demonstrated how we will use these to meet the evolving needs of our partners and support achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.</p><p>The UK's first Voluntary National Review (VNR) provided a comprehensive account of actions being taken across the UK by government and other actors. It is only through collaborative action that we can achieve the SDGs.</p><p>Civil society and the private sector are important policy and delivery partners for FCDO and our continued partnership remains critical in ensuring UK aid reaches those most in need and we leave no one behind. We continue to engage regularly with civil society including through bodies such as Bond. We work closely with a range of businesses both directly and through the UN Global Compact Network UK. FCDO engages with trade unions in a number of fora, including through the Ethical Trading Initiative and the board of the UK National Contact Point on the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) guidelines for multinational enterprises. Civil society organisations are important partners for the FCDO, delivering UK aid to those most in need, supporting policy development and tackling the biggest global challenges of our time. We continue to engage regularly with civil society at senior level including through bodies such as Bond and the organisations it represents, for instance discussing the SDGs at a Bond SDG Group town hall meeting in September. DFID is taking a number of steps to facilitate this, including:</p><p>- Harnessing the expertise, knowledge and resource of the UK private sector to deliver the Global Goals through the Great Partnership initiative.</p><p>- Supporting businesses to measure progress on delivering the Global Goals through our support for the World Benchmarking Alliance, launched in 2018, which will rank companies on their contributions to the Global Goals. The SDGs provide a framework to tackle the most pressing global challenges of our time – extreme poverty and disease, global instability and conflict, mass migration, climate change and gender inequality – challenges that are at the core of DFID’s work.</p><p>As such, DFID holds policy oversight for the SDGs, and we are working closely with the Cabinet Office and other Government Departments to develop our plans for the UK’s Voluntary National Review. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 02/05/2018 answer text <p>HM Treasury supports the wider work of the government on this issue through spending but also sets environmental tax policy, encouraging more sustainable production and consumption.</p><p> </p><p>For example, the Carbon Price Support incentivises investment in renewable energy and has contributed to a rapid decline in the use of coal in power generation. This helps to deliver cleaner energy for manufacturers and consumers. In the construction industry, the Aggregates Levy is shifting demand towards recycled and byproduct building materials and reducing the need to quarry for new materials. Tax is also transforming how we deal with waste. Since the Landfill Tax was introduced in 2000, the amount of waste going to landfill has decreased by 65% in the UK. Recycling has increased from 18% to 44% over the same period.</p><p> </p><p>HM Treasury is now exploring how the tax system or charges could be used to make the production and consumption of single-use plastics more sustainable.
