The Written Ministerial Statement on International Climate Finance published on 17 October showed that we spent over £3.2 billion ICF in 2021/22 and 2022/23. answer text <p>The recently published ICF Results (assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/media/651fb0a97309a1000db0a99e/UK_International-Climate-Finance_Results_2023_rev.pdf) report shows that more than a 100 million people in developing countries have been directly supported to adapt to the effects of climate change through UK International Climate Finance. In addition, almost 70 million people and over 250 institutions have been provided with improved access to clean energy. At COP27 the UK committed to triple its adaptation climate finance from £500 million in 2019 to £1.5 billion in 2025. The UK also committed to helping climate vulnerable countries to better access finance through a new approach being pioneered by the UK co-led Taskforce on Access to Climate Finance.</p> more like this

answer text <p>The UK is delivering on our commitment to spend £11.6 billion International Climate Finance (ICF) between financial year 2021/2022 and financial year 2025/2026, including £3 billion on development solutions that protect and restore nature. We are fully committed to ensuring that finance flows to the local level and are working on systems to increase local actors' role in development decision making. In addition, we have committed £100 million to delivering the aims and objectives of the Taskforce on Access to Climate Finance which includes bringing together bilateral and multilateral providers, climate funds and recipient countries to ensure that climate finance reaches where it's most urgently needed and supports the most vulnerable populations.</p> more like this

answer text <p>All parties at COP27, the 27th Conference of the Parties of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), including the UK, agreed to establish new funding arrangements for assisting developing countries that are particularly vulnerable to the effects of climate change. Parties agreed to establish a Transitional Committee of developed and developing countries to operationalise the funding arrangements, with which the UK engages closely.</p><p>At COP27 the UK announced a commitment to increase climate adaptation finance to £1.5 billion in 2025. This funding will help countries build their resilience to climate change impacts. The UK engages closely through the UNFCCC process with partners, as well as through direct engagements with developing countries.</p> more like this

answer text <p>At COP27, the UK and all parties agreed to establish new funding arrangements to assist developing countries that are particularly vulnerable to the adverse effects of climate change and also decided to establish a fund for responding to loss and damage. It was agreed to establish a Transitional Committee under the UNFCCC to operationalise the new arrangements and fund, including to develop recommendations for COP28.</p><p>Since the decision, the UK has actively engaged with the establishment of the Transitional Committee, including by bidding for membership of the Committee. answer text <p>As COP President, the UK worked with all Parties towards delivering on the Glasgow Climate Pact and raising the highest possible ambition to keep 1.5 in reach. Our Presidency year drove action and ambition with our global partners with over 90% of world GDP now covered by net zero commitments. In addition, the UK's International Climate Finance (ICF) supports developing countries to adapt to and mitigate the effects of climate change.
