answer text <p>All parties at COP27, the 27th Conference of the Parties of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), including the UK, agreed to establish new funding arrangements for assisting developing countries that are particularly vulnerable to the effects of climate change. Parties agreed to establish a Transitional Committee of developed and developing countries to operationalise the funding arrangements, with which the UK engages closely.</p><p>At COP27 the UK announced a commitment to increase climate adaptation finance to £1.5 billion in 2025. This funding will help countries build their resilience to climate change impacts. The UK engages closely through the UNFCCC process with partners, as well as through direct engagements with developing countries.</p> more like this

answer text <p>At COP27, the UK and all parties agreed to establish new funding arrangements to assist developing countries that are particularly vulnerable to the adverse effects of climate change and also decided to establish a fund for responding to loss and damage. It was agreed to establish a Transitional Committee under the UNFCCC to operationalise the new arrangements and fund, including to develop recommendations for COP28.</p><p>Since the decision, the UK has actively engaged with the establishment of the Transitional Committee, including by bidding for membership of the Committee. answer text <p>As COP President, the UK worked with all Parties towards delivering on the Glasgow Climate Pact and raising the highest possible ambition to keep 1.5 in reach. Our Presidency year drove action and ambition with our global partners with over 90% of world GDP now covered by net zero commitments. In addition, the UK's International Climate Finance (ICF) supports developing countries to adapt to and mitigate the effects of climate change. The UK is delivering on our commitment to double ICF to £11.6 billion between 2021/22 and 2025/26, seeking balance between adaptation and mitigation funding. answer text <p>All parties at COP27, including the UK, agreed to establish new funding arrangements for assisting developing countries that are particularly vulnerable to the adverse effects of climate change, as well as a fund for responding to loss and damage (L&amp;D). Parties also agreed to establish a Transitional Committee to operationalise the funding arrangements and the fund.</p><p>The UK is currently engaging with the UNFCCC and parties to establish the Transitional Committee for the L&amp;D fund and will continue to constructively engage with it to help ensure the fund and wider funding arrangements for L&amp;D deliver effectively for countries most vulnerable to climate change.</p><p>At COP27 the UK also announced £5 million of funding for the Santiago Network for L&amp;D, which will bring together and enhance the technical assistance available to developing countries suffering from the worst impacts of climate change, as part of a £13m package of support on adaptation and losses and damages.</p><p>The UK continues to prioritise adaptation and spent £2.4 billion of International Climate Finance (ICF) over 2016-2020 on climate adaptation, including investments in areas relevant to addressing losses and damages.</p>

answer text <p>The Foreign Secretary has no formal jurisdiction over UK based oil and gas companies, which is held by the Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy. The UK recognises that more needs to be done to help countries avert, minimise and address the loss and damage they are facing. answer text <p>The UK is committed to supporting efforts to assist developing countries avert, minimise and address loss and damage.</p><p>As COP26 Presidency, the UK will work with the incoming Egyptian Presidency for COP27 and UNFCCC Subsidiary Body Chairs to follow up on the actions set out in the COP26 Decision text. This includes the Glasgow Dialogue which will discuss the arrangements for the funding of activities to avert, minimise and address loss and damage. As Presidency we will also be supporting the process to operationalise the Santiago Network, which will catalyse and deliver technical support to enable countries to cope with the impacts of climate change.</p><p>We are also taking action through our International Climate Finance (ICF) - which will total £11.6 billion over the next 5 years, with an extra £1bn in if fiscal conditions allow - as well as through broader humanitarian assistance. Between 2016 and 2019, the UK spent £2 billion of ICF on adaptation and investments in areas needed to address loss and damage, including around £202 million on humanitarian assistance directly linked to climate change and building resilience to it, and £115 million on financial protection and risk management.</p>
